This is my latest completed figure featuring a personality head of jubal ealy from mini ball miniatures.The horse is from shenandoah and the rest of the figure is largely scratchbuilt with the addition of a few items from the spares box

Nice Scratch ........... if I can make a comment...... the tail of the horse could be improved seems much solid one..... however the job in total is likeable.

really nice horse, and you paint a dabbled grey. Not so easy. I like this conversion.

Quite nicely done! I really love the dappled grey on the horse - it looks great! The horse's head and eyes are excellent and I like the fact that you "lathered" him a bit. Nice touch. I agree with Maurizio about the tail but it's a small thing.

Thanks for all the nice comments guys I can see what you mean about the horse's tail its the one that comes with the kit I'll try repainting it.
My method for painting dapple greys is based on an article by Andre Korbanics in Campaigns magazine number 30 October1980!!
I don't suppose are too many copies around these days
Basically the palette is titanium white yellow ochre and lamp black oils with a drop of crimson added round the muzzle and belly areas
The whole horse is painted and shaded to define the musculature with the colours being feathered out and the areas where the dapples are to be left fairly dark
The dappling is carried out using white straight from the tube placing tiny specks in a random pattern fairly wide apart. The spots are then blended out wards using very short strokes with a double 0 brush this will bring the dapples closer together ,clean the brush often so that you blending white not grey,vary the sizes and keep the pattern irregular ,hot spot certain spots in lighter areas. It takes patience an practice but is very satisfying if it comes out right
