Corrected nasolabial fold - I sculpted it up to the corner of my eye, but it should only reach up to the nostril.

Started with the second cheek - the earlobe, eye area and nasolabial fold are done.

The lips and corners of the mouth still need to be done.

    Tomorrow.

Just read a shortish article written by Simonov in a 1945 book entitled "Behind the Front Line", which deals with the guerrilla movement operating against the German invasion forces from July 1941. His contribution deals with the guerrilla unit holed up in the stone quarries at Kerch in the Crimea - fascinating stuff.

Face is looking more symmetrical and the likeness is coming together well.

    Hi Martin

More good putty work , agree with Phil's comments definitely coming together now and certainly wouldn't know the original donor piece

    Cheers for updates

Our comrade senior political leader has a very pronounced chin part - and I'm doing that today!

    And lo and behold:

Suddenly the lips no longer look like raised bulges - and the fine smile that I absolutely wanted to have comes about by itself ...:

    And today: the hair!

Konstantin Simonow wore a mane that was completely improper for a man in the uniform of the Red Army!

Had he not already been a prominent (and popular!) Author at the beginning of the war, he would hardly have been allowed to get away with it!

In military terms, he only wore his hair on the neck ...:

He also underlined his semi-civil and semi-military habitus as a front correspondent by wearing his Furashka peaked cap in a deliberately non-military manner, preferring to push it back on the left back of the head ...:

That's how I want it too!

First, I marked the places on our hero's head where I had to sculpt hair.

Then the "mane" was sculpted - and when the basic shape of the hairstyle was determined, I put on his Furashka and did the fine work ...:

All in all, I now think that I have come pretty close to the model Konstantin Simonow ...

    More than pretty close Martin

Perhaps the cap sits a little high on your left looking at picture ?

    Great update

I envy your sculpting skills. Well done. One comment though. The mouth looks a bit small to me when compared to Simonow's portrait. Is it the photo or just me?

The Furashka is now firmly glued on, with two-component adhesive ...:

I changed the position of the hat (and with it the hairstyle!) again slightly - it is no longer so crooked and no longer so far on the back of the head. Comes much better!
