What is left for me to say that has not already been said about this mighty excellent sculpture of yours? From the first small ball of putty till the very last, you've entertained all of us and taught most of us........ I'm just envying all (my club mates the most) who are going to Euro for all the "goods" they're going to see.........how I wish, how I wish I would be there and drool over this sculpture.......I know you're a humble person, but please enjoy your moment my friend and bask in its glory, because you deserve all of it !!!

I don't know if you'll get me to break my vow of not buying another figure in this life.........as much as I wish (and my fingers itch for the paint brush believe me) to paint this figure, my "unfinished" projects drift a bit from this subject.......and besides these "unfinished" projects, my mind is set upon another project.....that is, depicting the Knights of St.John from their Hospitaller days, thru their stay in Malta........

I wish you all the luck in this world and beyond mate..........

I'm just updating my v-bench with the pictures of the finished piece..at long last.
The pictures are of a casting coated with primer.



a couple of pictures with the original head and the no-dachi

and a couple of pictures with the alternative head and rolled straw mat....
oh yes...and the hat is different too...

Roy, what could I say to such a perfect figure... It may be the best Samurai based/Ronin I have ever seen. It is loaden with detail and character and to receive such a well comment to my Alien Skull from such a Master of Sculpey like you left me speechles, too!

Now that I have seen your work makes me eager to reach your level (so in 100-150 years, I guess...) and I will work even harder. You have my highest respect for your work and I hope to see more and more of your figures!

Frank...thank you for your very positive remarks, this guy was a real challenge but I had a great deal of help along the way, both from this forum and other sculptors and modellers who saw it in the flesh as it was being made and also after it was finished. All the comments and advice helped to shape it into a piece I was eventually satisfied with.

One very important thing I learned with this figure is to evaluate all criticism carefully, remembering that people seeing your work for the first time, see it in a different way from yourself (as you may have been looking at it for weeks or maybe even months) and can very often pick up on something you may have missed, overlooked or simply taken for granted, or just plain gotten wrong..

There were several major changes made to this figure that I wasn't looking forward to doing...and that was the direct result of some very good quality one-on-one criticism that I received once I'd completed it...but they were all very important to the overall look of the piece and although not instantly noticeable, were worth the extra work.
(So a very belated and big'Thank You' to Quang, Alan Ball, and Carl Reid for their very specific and unselfish help)
