    Hi all,
Just posting my latest figure that was finally finished 12.30am the night before our Wasmex hobby competition. It is Seils 90mm Greek Fokideas. A beautiful kit to assemble and fun to paint. Basically all done in oils with some acrylics here and there for the detail work. The base was scratchbuilt. Hope you like him.

    Like him very much Ben!
The base is well done too, with the little inclination, like he is carefully looking over a hill top.

Would you mind sharing your technique on the bronze? I think this looks particularly natural.

    Cheers,
    Adrian

    Hi! Ben.
    Excellent work.
    Gorgeous and beautifulness.
I also liked a ground work.

Hi Mitsutaka, Thank you for your kind words.
Thanks Adrian, yeah, his pose lends itself to being at the top of an incline and peering over. The bronze work was first painted in Vallejo Old Gold, then given an oil wash of Burnt umbers and a touch of Hookers green and Black in varying shades depending on the area of his armour. Old Gold was then highlighted on high points again and then a mixture of Old Gold and Natural Steel was sort of drybrushed on the extreme high points. The sheild was done the same but instead of drybrushing, it was stippled on to give an uneven texture. Hope this helps.

    Hi Ben,

Well done mate. This figure was a worthy winner of the large scale category at WASMEx. The bronze work and the details on the shield are especially good.

Nice work Ben! I really like the groundwork. You took the time to make the rocks and plant life look appropriate to what I would imagine Greece looking like, and I commend you for that!

Hi Tony, thanks for your comments, your figures definately give me a run for my money.

Hi Jay, the ground work definately adds to the overall appeal, I used rocks from my local area which is mainly sand stone. I crushed these up and added them in to give a rugged look. Wasn't so sure of the grass reeds but it adds height to the ground work.

Cheers Gordy, I was happy with the colours as well.

Thanks for that Michael, I was pleased with the skin tones on this one. I tried to give him the darker Mediteranean look, also added body hair to his legs and arms.

Cheers for that Mike and Jason, I hand painted the design by making a stencil and tracing the outline onto the sheild, then filling it in with black. Quite easy really , but then again its a fairly basic design.

    Wonderful work.
Tanned skin is realistic. Ground work is also excellent.

Hi Marc and John, thank you for your comments and I'm glad you appreciate him.

Cheers David, Seil were bringing out some awesome stuff in their later years and it is a shame thay went by the way. I know some of the sculpters are still hanging here and producing, so not all is lost.
