German update

Oh man, it's been a long time since I've touched the putty , I thought I'd better make an attempt again, anyway here's some progress on the German I started so long ago. I've finally done the arms and hands so now it should be all downhill from here :)
Well the first attempt at the hands was a failure, I added the basic shape around the rifle and tried carving the fingers but the hands and fingers are too much of a complicated shape to be successful in this scale, so the second time round I added the individual fingers from rolled out putty, much easier to get each finger where it should be.
And the helmet is a casting of the one I prepared earlier

I've been waiting a long time for an update from yours :)

    Wonderful realistic work.

Say, you bought the Sculpting book by Faraut, did'nt you?
How do you rate it for miniature work ?
    Might the techniques be applicable?

I search for a good book on portrait or likeness sculpting and on Amazon there are several available about sculpting likenesses but I want to buy just one - the best available

    Edited for schpelling errors

Hi there Leigh, I too have been wondering when we may see an uodate from you. Good to see your german is coming along , the rifle looks pretty good as does the helmet.

How is the Vietnam figure coming?
    regards callum

Thanks fellas, I know it's been a long time but I've done very little modelling since well before christmas.

Manfred, I did get the Faraut book though I've yet to use any of the techniques. It's a beautiful book with excellent step by step approach which covers all features of the face. The work in the book is mostly lifesize or larger but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be applicable to sculpting bust's down to 1/9 or 1/12.
I suppose though, at the end of the day it's our own eyes and hands which detirmine the end result more so than any book.

Callum, hmmm , the Vietnam figure :) nothing much I'm afraid, though I have sort of finished the face, I think I need to source an SLR from somehwere so I don't have to scratch one.
Actually this rifle is from tamiya, I got lazy and decided against using the G43 I was working on, thought I would base the figure on this picture instead.

Leigh, It's very good to see you post something after all this time. You do fantastic work. I was just thinking about your stuff the other day and though I've e-mailed you a few times I did not want to pester you about if/what you were working on. I know too well the times you just don't or for whatever reason are not able to work on anything. Just post when it's possible, we do love your work.~Gary

    Hi Leigh

glad you're back pushing putty - and good to see I'm not the only one who can end up taking off chunks of time. At least you're back!

Looking very good. Hope you gain momentum and continue with this piece!

Thanks for the comments fellas, it's always appreciated.

Gary, it's always good to hear from you , email me anytime , no pest at all.

Rob, it's easy for me to loose track of things, especially when things like work, house renovations, etc get in the way. How are your projects going ?

Hope I can get some clothing added soon and have some more pics.
