Now further work on tassets and skirts of the jacket.

It’s coming on…..head and helmet on, neck, hair and shirt collar reworked. Further work done on tassets. Baldrick (no I don’t have a cunning plan! In fact not much of a plan at all!) and sword going on

Finally… the modelling is finished! Needs a clean up and then on to the painting.
Will paint it as a Pikeman from one of the New Model regiments in a red coat with different colour turn backs at the cuff. I appreciate that tassets were probably not worn that late in the war but I wanted to have a go at modelling them (if fact it is doubtful if even the breast and back was worn by pikemen of the NMA but call it artistic licence…).
My original plan was to have him holding a pike. Pikes were anything between 15 ft and 18ft in length but about 16 ft was probably the most common, although it was not unusual for pikemen to lop 2ft off the end to make them more manageable. So in a scale of 1/10 my model pike would be something like 17 inches long…..not sure if there is enough space in my display cabinet so I “found” a halberd/partisan in my spares box that might do. The shape of the halberd again is probably not correct for the period, but hey ho. I appreciate the wooden dowel is a bit thick but serves to illustrate my point.

Great sculpting, you really have enhanced my original bust. The halbard really suits the new pose.

But of course Peter I couldn’t have made it without your two original busts, so thank you! Your busts, which are usually of out of the ordinary subjects, are well made and are great value for money, always send my imagination running as to what I can add.
I like the look of that WAAF plotter………..mmmmm ….now to try and get it past the audit committee …bless her!

Wraps are off! A little touching up and we are there!.
I wish now that I had added a Sargeants sash to better fit in with the partisan/halberd….maybe next time although it was always my intention to make a Pikeman but was put off by the size of the pike even in scale.
From these original Sarnia figures to my (almost) finished interpretation.
