I welcome your comments and critiques. And I'll mention that the Gothicgeek
did a similiar figure from DML recently and posted wonderful pictures of each
detail. And I tried to get inspired from looking at his photos. Naturally, it
isn't up to his amazing standards with his 120mm figure. But that is OK.

Mine is the a repop of the old DML 120mm Wehrmacht Machine Gunner and
I painted it entirely in acrylics. I had a great deal of trouble with this one.
Because ahead of time — hope the novice figure folks are listening — I didn't
plan out the problem with lining up the hand so it would grasp the weapon,
and so the weapon would sit level, parallel to the ground and so the weapon
sling would fit just right without slack. I won't go into the multi problems
that occurred, such as the right hand fell out of the sleeve, and later the
weapon came unloose from the hand. It seems you should glue plastic
together before painting it. Even stupor glue will break loose from acrylic
paint. But now I know!! :p:):)

Very nice work Rick. You seem to have overcome your problems.

    Thank you Tony . . .

Thank you Tony. Yes, unlike when I was young and took a powder when things
got difficult, I finally realize that with this hobby at least, the idea is to
stick with it, and overcome the problems until you get it right. Obviously
    that is how we learn.

Also Tony, I don't know how to post a picture in a Personal Message. I was
intending to post an image of my idea of a cuff or sleeve of a great coat
re that Highwayman that you're working on. I hate to admit that I'm a
dummy when it comes to 'pooters and web sites, how to negotiate them.
And your thread about the highwayman just . . . wall , it was gone! So here
is a photo from that period that shows the kind of great coat, or Redingote
with what I was meaning. Hope this is of some help to you, Tony.

    Great paintwork.
The base fits the figure extremely well.
    Good job.

I do appreciate your remarks, Marc. . .

    Hi Marc:

Thanks for taking a look see and for your comments. Doing ground cover,
or as some call it terrain, has been a real challenge for me. I've done it off
and on for a number of years. But for so long, I just didn't think the finished
"base" or terrain had created that illusion of reality in miniature. Steve
Readdie in an e-mail said he thought this was my best attempt so far. And I
do think it is an improvement over what my attempts have been in the past.

The fence is an idea I got from the box art for a drummer boy figure from
Elite in 54mm. And I've used the idea before with my 1:35th scale Olga the
    Russian Partisan. Thanks again, Marc.

    Nice one Rick!

    the face is especially nice!

i like the groundwork too and the different weapon. I've taken to glueing the hands actually to the weapons now and then sticking the hands to the arms after most of the paints on :)

    Thanks for sharing

    Hey Carl in the house:

Thanks mate, for chiming in. . . I admire your works so much, and one of
the most interesting things about your talent, is that not only are you very
prolific but you cover a wide range of subject matter. Right on, to quote the
late John Denver. Country Roads anyone???:):)

    Thanks mate,

    hello Mark and Tony. . . again. . .

    Tony:

Great, I am glad you got back to this thread and saw that image. I was
thinking about doing a coloured pencil sketch but of course, the image
captured from the internet was faster. I see the big cuff with the wide
opening as another aspect that will help set the mood and the time period,
the way certain kind of clothing or "costume" can lead the viewer into what
    the sculptor has in mind.

Mark: Thanks for chiming in, my friend. I do appreciate it.

Aw, dude, I didn't go into a lot of detail previously. And you are exactly
right on the point about getting all the weapons and the hand all done in
bare plastic before adding paint. One of the problems for me, and I didn't
mention this earlier, is that I rarely want to use the head that comes with
the kit or the hands that come with the kit. And so the problem starts right
there. Hopefully, you and your cohorts will write letters to Alpine (who is
now doing expensive 120mm figures) and to Tamiya and to DML . . . would
they please include several pairs of hands in their 120mm figure kits. . .
duh??? and several different heads. Is that too much to ask???

Alright, Rick, . . get off your soap box. Durn burn it.:mad::p
Rome wasn't built in a day. Whao, I could say the same about any resin
    figure kit, huh?

Greetings, Pedro my friend. . .

    Hello Pedro:

It was so kind of you to take a look see, amigo. And I do appreciate your
kind words. It has been a struggle over about 5 years. Yes, I have made
progress, but I still am learning each and every project that I start. That is
kind of an awesome thing to realize, if we take time to think about how all
of this fits into the grand scheme of things, of our journey thru life.

I will never learn it all, . . . there will always be something new to learn,
more good friends, model builders, sculptors who can share with me, who
can be a postiive influence on my life. I see it as really astonding. Yet I
know that for some these thoughts never enter their minds. Sigh. . . so
    be it. :):)

    Kind regards,

    Hello Stephano:

Thanks for your kind word, and I do appreciate it. Thankfully, 120mm is
large enough for these old tired eyes to have a go at trying to get some
character in the gaze. . . What is the old saying???? (y):)

Ah yes, . . . the eyes have it. . . the windows to the soul.

    Thanks mate,

    Helly Ken. . .

What next??? Wall. . . podna' . . . next is tomorrow night!!

Yeh, my Kansas Jayhawk Mens basketball team, who are number one
currently in Division One travel to Austin, Texas to play the Texas Longhorns.
Whoa Nellie, . . . it will be a war. . . and neither team will take any
prisoners. . . I mean that symbolically of course.

But I'm working on the Tamiya 120mm Machine gunner figure with the MG-42
with bi-pod slung over his shoulder. Of course, the head won't work so I
have substituted that with a Legends and Lore head. Gave the head a hair
cut. And am trying to come up with other hands than the mitten hands
    provided. We will see. . . .

And also, am painting a Ft. Duquecayne (whao, is this really misspelled)
bust of Lafayette that I bought quite a few years ago. I just really need a
lot of practice with acrylics. But it has been a lot of fun. . . :):):)

    Rick,
Very nicely done and very nice setting. Glad that you overcame your obstacles. Even in plastic and especially 120m/m I would pin the hands and weapons so that you have more than a glue joint from plastic to plastic. Also helps when transporting the figure. Just a suggestion.:) Great base to set him off.(y)
    Cheers

    Hello John in Indy

BTW, John. . . I finally got to go to that great Roscoe Turner IPMS contest
that they have had for over 10 years. And it was a blast. I like Indy. . .

And you have hit the nail on the head John. It is a question of using (well, this
is what I have in several diameters) piano wire and drilling holes into the
plastic so that there is a really strong bond at the point of stress. I am doing
that now on the next figure in 120mm of Tamiya. Another Wehrmacht
'gentleman' in great coat carrying that MG-42 w/ bi-pod. Thanks for the
    advice, . . . I do appreciate it, John. (y)(y)

    Rick,
Glad that you enjoyed Indy. Our next show is in march this year. Hope that you can make it.
I usually use copper wire as it is a little more flexible and allows one to move the hand/head to get the right position in case the holes are a little off.
    Cheers,
    John
