Well, I'm late getting into this thread. My daughter is suffering from a major
heartache caused by a immature male manipulative liar. And so I've been so
concerned about her these past few days. Any parent will certainly under-
stand and some who are not parents. She lives far away but is doing better
now. And I wanted to get into this thread for a number of reasons, Mark.

I would appreciate it if you'd do some more explaining about your style of
painting using the cross-hatch technique. Altho, I 'm certainly familiar with it
from art school and years of work, I don't recall it being mentioned
that much on any figure painting site. I really like the effect
and would appreciate some text from you on why you chose
to use that technique on the weapon straps.

Also, I believe on one of the pages it was mentioned that you were doing
the old DML 120mm Wehrmacht soldier kit, but that you carved off the
ammo bandalier (sp, sorry). I have what I think is that kit, and am
working on it. But there is no ammo belt over his shoulder. Could you
explain. I'll enclose the box art of the figure I'm doing. No where near
the quality of work that you're doing, of course, but I intend to post those
images soon . . .

Ah Kids ..... to answer your points ... the cross hatching is done to try and impart texture, i wanted the contrast between the leather straps and the coarse fabric sling and pouch, i use the same technique of shading and high-lighting as the rest of the figure but just use lots of tiny brush strokes, if its too coarse i use overlaid flat glazes to soften the effect and that kit is this kit! the bandolier/sling is moulded on for the PPSH. i carved it away and sculpted the straps back in.... HTH, PM me if you need more detail


The end is nigh! for this figure......

basework is finished and all thats left is the weathering, just going to do some dust and a bit of light mud spattering

I've just had he pleasure to follow the whole process from page 1 having missed it because I was away. Fantastic work as usual Mark and well photo documented, great to follow.

Dumb & Dumber in the Heartland

Well goll darn it, back again. . . like a six cylinder pest.

But I understand that Dumb and Dumber syndrome is highly contagious,
especially here in Heartland American, Uh huh. And I plumb forgot to mention
the following. And I don't think it was pointed out.

While I was looking at your great WIP photos I noticed that you even paid
special attention to the lenses of the binoculars. . . hey, I can spell that woid.
You even painted the reflection is a supa' shade of blue, and then added the
white highlight dot. . . . in each lens. Wow. . . impressive.

So now I can take that knotted string offa my right index finger. . . .
