    Hi all!

I was given a sample of this kit (DG12-001) at Euro ( Many thanks!! )...

This is so far out of my normal area of interest that when I was looking for a fun project before I start on my next swathe of commissions, this fellow jumped out :)

I know nothing in detail of the Roman Army so please feel free to advise and inform ;)

The other reason for doing this bust is the armour, it will be a challenge to do in NMM so thats nice LOL

    Anyway the kit

See that lovely little casting of the chin tie thingy? it's history, I'll be making a new one from lead wire :)

Also notice the shield options. I will be following the boxart in that I shall use the cut off shield..

After ABing the basic skin colours I worked on the face ( which is looking down so is a pig to photograph )

Next I worked on the face some more and the arms, also the sword and it's details..

Most recently I have been building up the colour on the helmet, still lots to do and some weathering... but overall it seems to be ok.

Please feel free to do any of the three Cs ;)

Off to a cracking start Mark.
Skin tones to your usual high standard and NMM looks great. Any chance you can divulge what paints/colours you use in your SBS.
    Following with interest.

    Thanks guys :)

Kim, Many thanks again for the sample and yes please re post on your facebook ( with a link back to this thread please :) )

    Some colour notes...

The Flesh is my bog standard set of..

    Base AV Mahogany sand
    mid AV Game Dwarf Flesh
    high AV Basic Skin Tone
    2nd High AV Light Flesh
    3rd High AV White

For shaders and to add colour

    GW Blood Red
    AV Dark Prussian Blue

I've done a few SBS articles on skin and here's one from PF

    For the Helmet...

    Iron...

Base AV German Grey and GW Ultramarine blue about 3:1
Mid AV Neutral Grey and GW Ultramarine blue about 3:1
High AV White and GW Ultramarine blue about 10:1
    Final High AV White

    Brassy bits

    Base AV Burnt Umber
    Mid AV Yellow Ochre
High AV White and AV Yellow Ochre about 8:1
    Final High AV White

The layering to get the transitions is laborious but a hair dryer helps and just keep building the colour.

I hope that helps and informs in some way :)

This is coming out beautifully! I am very impressed with your color selection and mixes. Do you have some reference to go by, or is it good ole fashioned VKE ?

The Master of NMMs is at it again.

I'm liking this Mark. As you say, outside your normal comfort zone but you've got it absolutely nailed.
