as my latest project is nearly finished, so its long over due I started this chap, did promise to paint this a long time ago, so very sorry Graham I'll try not to be so darn forgetful.
Cracking little sculpt by Moz in 75mm.
Its all cleaned up that took under an hour,so out with the paints!
It was blocked out with Humbrols.

hey its very likely no slow brushes in the house,the painting is the easy bit its the sword slings that are going to be a pain.

it was a dose of out of sight out of mind,when decorated my work room every thing was put away,you wouldn't believe it now, it looks like a poltergeist has had a fit!!!

Ok sit rep!
Well its not lighting up in a frenzy of paint,well yet any way.
For me its always a slow plod at the start,I'm always thinking inside out with under painting ie- the bearskin this will be painted in thinned oils so the colours underneath will show slightly,it will all become apparent I hope

Like the bearskin technique, should work very well indeed with the oil wash.

one and all that are looking in on this.
A wee up date on the painting front after a fair time spent with a "Thin Red Line" plate,I started to get my knickers in a twist I was a little bit confused with the uniform detail,the figure depicts an officer but some of the finite detail was not there on the shoulder belt and waist belt so a little artistic licence will be taken,any way some more photos

I did make some buckles for a member on here for the slings, I also need to send Jon a set as I only have just found the mould.
Am away today but will send the, for both of you.
I had not realised when released that they were not included so I made a set, they just fit to the slings. Do you want some pewter sheet also.

Cheers mate a set would speed things up a little,I have a small heap of lead/pewter/electrical tape for every occasion
I was under the impression I had to make them, not the end of the world but a set will be ace!

Paul, Keith, no problem.
So sorry for late reply, just got back from London as was the weekend meet of the other thing I do and couldn't email properly.
The buckles are on a flat resin sheet when cast so easy to either sand off or trim, they work ok.
I know I need to send Jon some as they are generic but the mould was so small I lost it amongst arms and legs etc.

I am the member to whom Gra is referring. he very kindly created a set of slings for me. It all worked out very nicely. I've attached a couple of (poor) pictures of my effort. No where near as good as Paul's work but I was quite pleased with the outcome.

its always interesting to see another prospective,what medium are you painting in, it looks like acrylic?
I must say very neat work.
I have managed an hour in the saddle,very little is complete still I tend to keep tweaking. but this is as far as I have got.

Hi Paul,

It's a mixture of Humbrols, mostly their regular enamels but I used their acrylic for the tunic (the store was out of scarlet in the normal enamel). I used some oil washes in shading and weathering on the boots and bearskin. The flash seems to have washed out the shadows and shading in the picture - it does look better "in the flesh." Thanks for the comments. Coming from someone of your talent that means a lot.

we are very much in the minority us Humbrol'isti, for some its a real no go area, I find it more workable than acrylics although I do use them for a few applications I used Vallejo acrylics Prussian blue/black highlighted with a little white added for the breeches, there very good for fine detail, but other than that I'm lost with them
I've always thought art to figure painting is use any thing that works for you,providing it gives you the results, all mediums have a use in my book
So far I've painted the bearskin and the top of the boots in oils and the rest of the figure is painted in Humbrols.

When I started out (many moons ago) with Airfix Spitfires Humbrol was the only game in town. I think I've just been sticking with what I know!
