Hi to all on PF ,

I thought I would do a review of a bust that I have had in the gray army since Figureworld 2010 (a show organised by members of the forum called The Basement) .

    Scale : Approx 1:12th

    Material : Resin

Reference Number : RL -BU 01

    Sculptor : Rob Lane

    Box Art : Adrian Hopwood

As a reference Rob has used the paintings of Angus McBride (Page 12 Colour Plate No 5 in the book called Ancient Celts fom Concord Publications)

The model comes in a clear sealable plastic bag together with a colour picture of a finished piece , I actually got mine direct from Rob but the range from Elan 13 is available from El Greco Miniatures.

The model consists of 2 pieces in a gray resin , one being the actual torso complete with head and a intergrated pedastal base , the second being the helmet "crest" .

Sculpting is well defined throughout which has cast well .

Moving onto the main torso now

As said before sculpting is well defined with some fine details being incorporated , nice folds on the cloak he wears , together with the decoration of the helmet , facial details, beard and plaits are also finely done , all of which will aid the painting of this model .

On his chest he has a large metal piece of armour which also has a small torque on it , based on the reference , nicely detailed which will benefit from washes , bringing out these.

Lets look at the other details now....

Firstly the helmet, armour was highly prized in the Celtic , a sign of a warrior , the helmet like the chest armour has some good details ..bring out the washes !!!! The top piece is also nice dealt with and links nicely with the decoration on the chest armour (I would tend to pin this piece using a very fine drill -, this will stop the possibilty of any damage if accidently knocked by those with bannana fingers ..ie me !!)

Facial details are one of a battle hardened warrior , full beard and hair plaits , these are of particular note .

On now to my final thoughts:
    Conclusion:
This is a model that has been really well sculpted , nice details have been added making it an interesting one to paint, packaging could perhaps have been more (but in todays current climate keeping the cost down is vital to all companys) If ordered from El Greco then it will be packed very well preventing any possible damage

In the UK it can be got from El Greco of course (excellent customer service is assurred) at a cost of £15 plus shipping

I recommend this first bust from Rob and look forward to seeing more in the Elan 13 range .

Here we have some more pictures of the painted bust by Adrian Hopwood

Kev, nice review and congratulations to Rob and Adrian on the excellent sculpting and painting. I also was lucky enough to pick one up at Figure World.

    Cheers Ken
