I encourage myself and I will try another little transformation. In this case I wish to get another look in this Andrea Figure changing the hat:

Rafa - Good idea and a nice choice of hat. Suggest you go over the edges of the hat brim with sandpaper to "feather" them to a thinner, more realistic appearance. Good luck!

Well. I think I will go with the painting process. This is the figure...

Nice job on the hat and scarf modifications!

Although it is fun to change around a figure, this modification gets away from being historical into Hollywood silliness. Although this style of wearing a "cowboy" hat is very popular today, it was not done in the 1880s when Wild Bill was alive. Because of this it looks horribly out of place on this figure. Ridiculous even. The same goes for the neck scarf. Cowboys wore this as part of their work clothing and it does not go with the fancy "city duds" worn by the figure.

I am sorry to be so negative. The truth is that Wild Bill was a very interesting historical figure. With this modification the model has become a strange cartoon......

Why not? This is only a hobby. Enjoy with it.

I apologize you are not interested in this figure. You must consider that this is a hobby and also the people wish to leave their imagination flying around it.
I know this is not the correct Wild Bill. If I had wanted to represent Will Bill I had left it as it were out of the box (the same hat, the same character). But this is not my intention today. I want to experiment, I want to do new things. I wonder why nothing happens when somebody paint a dragon or another figure that is not real.

Yes, probably my imagination is not correct with the history (I am licensee in geography and history and I know it) but let me told you that I experiment something new that I never experiment before in this case. The possibility of to create something with epoxy putty is new for me and open me new possibilities in this hobby. And I love that way.

I respect your oppinion but I take this decission (enjoy without limits) when I saw an excellent gold medal named "Creative Crimea". It was not correct in history terms but the author enjoyed with it, like me.

Yes, this is my first fantastic figure, and I like it.

Altho the sculpting might not be historically 100%, it was skillfully accomplished and, it sounds like, a confidence builder for you, Rafa. Great! The hat and bandana were well constructed - the bandana looks particularly nice - beautiful folds and drapery. Keep sculpting Rafa!

It is not the same thing to build dragons, or space marines, which everybody knows are fantasy subjects, than to build a historical figure with historical errors - specially when this intention/this fact has not been stated, and can lead to confusion about the real aim/nature of the model.

Also, in this case, I would think (correct me if I'm wrong) that you added the changes because you thought they looked nice, but you did not know (nor cared) if they were accurate for that particular figure. Even if you really knew, you never mentioned you were just letting your imagination fly, in your own words.

Surely, you could have tried to experiment and explore new possibilities and, at the same time, keeping thew figure accurate, had you wanted to do the extra step to research. You can see in this very forum how lots of members manage to create artistically attractive, skillfully crafted and historicaly accurate figures. It can be done ;-)

BTW, I don't think the "Creative Crimea" is a comparable example. If I remember well, that was a British soldier in the Crimea campaign, which Marjn Van Gils painted in WW2 German colours and camouflage patterns. Nobody would fail to notice that was a creative experiment, with no attempt to be historically accurate.

I believe yours is a case of wrong invocation of artistic license.

This said, of course this is a hobby with many options and everyone is free to choose. The problem is that the choice one makes is not always properly explained (or easily understood by the audience).

I think that, because this is a hobby originally concerned with historical figures, one would expect this is what we are building, painting and showing, and that we try to keep it that way; and that if this is not the case (which is perfectly legitimate) it should be mentioned.

On the other hand, maybe I'm a little old-fashioned in my understanding of this hobby...

Ok Daniel. Really I appreciate your comments and I respect your POV but I will tell you the history of my cowboy:

He was a rich man who had a father to whom somebody killed while he was playing the poker in a Saloon at Lousiana. A friend told him that his father was killed by an assassin when he was conducting cows. This friend gave him the scarf, pistols and the hat that his father had when he was killed. Then the "rich man" put the hat of his father and his handkerchief to the neck and he take the decision of killing to the bad guy (he did not have enough time to change his jacket). WHY NOT?
