The photograph used as the model for the Wilson Rockets figure was taken by Larry Burrows in the DMZ of Vietnam in 1966. It was first published in Life Magazine on October 28, 1966. It has since been published in hundreds of books, magazines, pamphlets, and advertising brochures.
Contrary to popular opinion, he did not die 12 days later!
In April of 1985, People Magazine published the photo with the caption
"Where Are They Now" A fellow Marine saw the Photo and contacted the editors who located John. People published an interview with John and his family in the April 29, 1985 issue. This will give you an inkling as to the man he has become since his time in the DMZ of Vietnam. As his friend, I can tell you he is quite a remarkable person.
If you would like to get in touch with John, if you email me I will give him your email address.

(to housecarl: Did not mean to leave you in suspense but wanted to check with John before I responded!)
