Here are a couple of pictures of a project that I have been working on. It is a WWII Boys Anti-Tank Rifle .55 cal. in 120mm scale. It will be used with an upcoming figure that I'm working on.

Must have been a size thing Stephen but as its 55 cal. had it hit you anywhere you would not be writing this now.
    Very glad he missed

    Nick,
Nicely done. Plastic and putty with a little bit of brass?

Nice weapon. Is it 1/15 or 1/16? ~Gary

    Impressive stuff.

Looks like a 'Up yours too, buddy" weapon, although in reality, the user had to be selective about what he shot, or he'd just chip the paint.

Hope to see it when its linked up to the rest of the project.

    Cheers

PS - ever considered doing an SBS on making weapons?

Ray, I used aluminum tube for the barrel and turned it down in my drill press as I don't have a metal lathe. the rest of the rifle was made from plastic stock and Magic Sculpt. The Monopod was the also done with plastic stock and brass pins.

It was used to shoot at tanks, and now we use .50 cal. rifles as a sniper weapon!

    Jamie,

I have never done a SBS, but will keep that in mind for the next project. I have a couple more weapons that I want to do that are not seen very much.

Marine Raiders used these things. Carlson's 2nd Raiders had a few on the Makin Island Raid and I believe they shot up a Jap seaplane or two with one.

Large caliber weapons are back on the scene with the .50 sniper rifles and the Anti Material Rifles in service in some countries. .50 cal, 14.5mm, 15mm, and a 20 mm are in use. Very popular as sniper rifles and for disabling vehicles, sensors, and comm gear from long ranges.

Looks a very good casting so far, old friend, just some interesting info, as it was not a very effective piece and didn't play much of a roll in WW2, the Royal Navy used them extensively however, on the Mine Sweepers to destroy the mines they had cut from their mooring lines when they bobbed to the surface,
my father used the weapon during the Korean war on RN Mine Sweepers.

    Thanks for posting - RobH:p

Mike and Rob, I like to do subjects that are not as main stream as we usually see in the model and figure world. The Boys Anti-Tank Rifle is one of those subjects. It was used early in WWII but the armor on vehicles increased so quickly as to make it obsolete aginst them. It has soldiered on in other duties since then. Thanks for sharing your information. Nick

And rightly so where would life be if we didn't do some thing that is particularly intersting to us as figure/modellers, a very interesting subject and a good casting with lots of detail.

Will be great to se the whole piece finished on your planned project.
    Regards, RobH.
