Lots of catching up to do!
Here´s my progress on a 1/18th scale Styracosaurus albertensis sculpted by my good friend Shane Foulkes, available from http://www.cretaceouscreationsofamerica.com/models_for_sale.html

Instead of pinning, "plug-holes" were drilled in the join surfaces. 24-hour epoxy glue gets forced into these and gets a really good grip.

There´s lots of character in the details of the head of this animal. A broken parietal horn, assymetry and overall "spikeyness" >;~} > all boost the visual interest.

I slightly reduced and re-shaped the nasal horn on mine, just to make it a bit different from all the others out there.

The kit looks really nice when built.

Here´s a finished and painted example from the hands of another good friend, Steve Riojas.
    He´s a grand-master with the airbrush.

I want to give the impression that my animal is being pursued from behind, so I chose to turn the head slightly towards the left.
Some neck was removed on that side and more built-up on the opposite side.

Thicker skin-folds were added to the compressed side whilst the stretched right-side was modelled relatively smooth.

You can also see here that I´m going to raise the pose somewhat, which I hope will enhance the sense of urgency/panic.

There´s a new tongue in the mouth, too.

The inside of the mouth is painted with flesh, yellows and creams with some sepia spattering (look at the inside of crocodile/alligator gapes). The rest of the beast is primed and ready ... but don´t hold your breath ...

The final pose will be slightly more elevated than this (the black styrofoam is just for support until a mounting-screw goes into one of the rear legs).
There will be a scar across the right eye which will be blind - reason enough for a mob of Daspletosaurus to select this animal as a potential prey-item.

Awesome work Spike, it's such a breathe of fresh air to see your work on this site. I assume we'll see some paper plants and some rocks making up the groundwork? Can't wait to see the next round of WIP pics mate.

100% agree with Tony on this. Looking forward to seeing this progress. Would be great to see some photos of your other pieces.

Thanks for the kind words, Tony.
Lush, swampy environment for this kind of animal - not so much rocks, but paper plants definitely on the menu.

Spike, you're doing a fine job there. I love dino kits too. I look forward to seeing more of your work.

    Oh I love that Spike!
I do get the panicky atmosphore, it works.
