Here I present the pictures of my completed Boxart commision for CGS Military Miniatures fantastic Cuirassier bust, sculpted by Carl Reid. Just like the previous Imperial Guard release this was a joy to paint as the sculpting evokes such a sense of life and feeling indicative of a battle such as Waterloo.

As usual I have used my favoured Jo Sonjas acrylics for the flesh and clothing but this is a brilliant piece for multiple mediums and techniques.

The cuirass and helmet are rendered in Spastix Mirror Chrome (more commonly used on RC car bodies) with some oil paint shading.

Printers Inks and oils were used for the brasswork.

    Vallejo acrylics for the whites.

Graphite (pencil lead) rubbed over Jo Sonja Carbon Black and polished for the gun barrel, fittings and sword blade.

Vallejo pigments and matt medium for the weathering.

This was always going to be one of Carl's sculpts that benefits from good painting planning.
You've done this perfectly Alex. Just the right amount of detailing particularly on the wear and tear on the uniform and a superb expression on the face.
    Masterly work(y)
    Cheers

Love it. But am I alone in thinking the moustache looks a bit odd? To me it seems to be growing from the nostrils and not on the upper lip. As a former long-term moustache wearer, I think that growing and maintaining one like this would be a complete pain. Still, I suppose the sculptor had his reason.

Superb work Alex I love it, and don't see anything wrong with the moustache other than nit picking for nit pickings sake. I fail to understand what some see when viewing pieces.
Thanks again for excellent work both to you and Carl.

Notwithstanding that, Gra. I did say I loved it and wondered if it was just me. But I stick by what I wrote. It’s not nit-picking, chum. To me, if it’s not inaccurate the moustache’s shape is certainly odd and would take one hell of a lot of looking after. Maybe a primping hussar would cultivate such a growth but a cuirassier? Doubt it.

Let’s not get personal, eh? If it hadn’t struck me as odd, I wouldn’t have said anything. Surely we strive for accuracy and believability, don’t we?

Having sported numerous combinations of facial hair myself I really can't see it as an unrealistic tache. Most of my upper lip growth Stems from the septum and right on the nostril. If I didn't pluck my nasal hairs it would all blend into one. Think that's enough info on my personal grooming habits for a figure painting thread!
