The only pictures I took are in my WIP thread, I didn't take any when I started on the figure properly. I tried to represent a moonlight kind of light, by going for a blueish grey highlight, which didnt work. I think the problem was partly that for what I was trying, it would probably neeed something what you're doing, to seperate the model from the rest of the envioronment, because otherwise it just looks odd. The OSL for the candles I'm quite o.k. with, but again, I think it would work better with a completly dark surround/background. Your approach is acutally giving me some ideas..
Using LED's may work, but I would caution before cutting the tops off the candles, lest it starts to look like a christmass novelty display. To add the glow of the candles is not to tricky, if you use an airbrush.

Just a thought re de LEDs and the candles. Perhaps it is possible to drill out the candles and replase the flame with a 'wick' of fibre optic cable replacing the flame.
That cables (of all flames) can then be carefully redirected out of view to a spot behind de figure where they are connected to a single LED simulating the light of a flickering candle.

    Hope this makes sence...

    Nice figure!
Like the idea of a stained glass window, especially if back lit! Would a large slab of stone [her throne?] be left unworked on top of [man made] steps? How about a rookery [crowery??] to fill top spaces, or some sort of rough hewn 'bird cage' ?
    Following with interest!

    Hi Tony,
I am going to buck the trend here I have been thinking on this for the last 4 or 5 days, so apologies for the late input. I think enclosing her in such away will hide the side views of the figure. I understand you wanting to make it atmospheric but I would go with a more open natural setting so you can see the beauty of the figure not only from the front but also both sides.
I would make a back drop on intertwined branches and vines so leaving the figure open from three sides, I have attached a picture so you can see were I am coming from. You could make something a stone archway behind her with creepers and branches wrapping round it and backlight this. Or may be a couple of stone columns wrapped in foliage and backlit.

In the in end it is your project mate and go with what you feel comfortable with, but I think going this way will supress this lovely figure too much from a viewing point of view.
    cheers

Thanks to everyone for your likes and comments.

I’m making slow progress. The base coat of the skin colour is on. A mix of Josonja Smoked Pearl and Vallejo Beige Red. I’m focussing on creating a very smooth skin texture, so I’ve been brushing the flesh areas with a wet brush without paint to remove minute brush strokes and paint build-up.

I’ve also drilled holes in each of the candles to allow the wiring for the LED lights to be fed through from below. C950AD21-0451-4CE9-9A61-F43FCBBEE170.jpeg 2E8D9069-C89C-4BBA-9ABD-83451984B2F1.jpeg

    Hi Tony,
I have have another idea for you! If you are going for the hall and not a natural out door setting, then why don't you alter the side walls into archways so you can view the figure from both sides, you might need to bring the Morrigan slightly forward. You could make the columns very Celtic looking with carved runes.
    cheers

    Hi guys

Firstly, allow me to extend my greetings and we’ll wishes to you all for the New Year.

During my break, I’ve been plugging away at this piece. Trying to get the smooth complexion and skin tones of a pale woman’s skin has been quite a challenge. Not sure if I’ve nailed it yet, but this is still only the acrylic paint step. Next will come the oil paint washes.

Thanks for your comments, particularly Ritchie, who has caused me to redesign the box diorama layout. 8269F235-AE5A-4DCD-8F71-33515CFFDCF5.jpeg 45C3E937-4360-4346-A3C1-D3CA1C69001D.jpeg 39E6A862-FF1F-406C-8734-77BF68B9A802.jpeg

Ohh, you are going for a redhead. An interesting choice, as the Morrigan is usually depicted with black hair. I like your progress so far, the granite looks good, and I'm looking forward to see how you are doing the skin tones with oil washes.

Wonderful. Looks nice and smooth at normal viewing distance. Nice to see you aren't going for the black everywhere approach.
