The figure for 'toot' being completed and mailed to Phil May for completion and painting, I went back to work on the cavalryman starting with the trousers and chaps-like leather pieces around the boots. I've also completed more on the horse and "re-constructed" part of the road sign.

This is definitely WIP. I've already noticed one knee that needs to be padded and probably brought down a bit and areas that need cleaning-up far too numerous to mention. As always, your comments and critique are welcome.

This would be a lovely piece. But i have some questions. What is he gone to do with his left arm.
I think it is the angle of the camera but, i find the calfs from the cavalerist to thick in range of his upper leg. But it can be the picture.
Further i cannot do more then congratulate you with this result. It is gonna be a beauty.

Marc - The road sign will have four flat rectangular sign boards, which, in peacetime would have indicated town names and miles or kilometers to the destination, i.e., "Antwerp - 12 km". It being 1914, the names and distances have been crudely painted over to confuse the enemy. The cavalryman will be balancing himself by holding on to one of the sign boards with his left hand.

The road sign itself is about half done. It was completed earlier, but damaged accidentally, so I've had to start with some of the parts and re-build.

And, I agree, on one leg the calf is too thin and I'll build it up. The cavalry uniform trousers with the leather inner knee pads and bell bottoms are screwy-looking, but cool! Kind of half 'chaps'. Chaps as in leather riding over-trousers, not chaps as in British guys. What unusual seams. Must have been the very devil for a tailor to sew.

As I said it's a work in progress, so there is lots left to do on this guy. Fun!

Hi Dan...good to see this project taking shape. I like the way he's coming along, a little more around the upper part of the trousers maybe is all that is needed, but as you mention, they are a rather unusual piece of kit, the seams are an eye-catcher.

I reckon he's looking very, very good so far Dan. It's gonna be an impressive piece overall.

Earlier this evening I got about half the tunic finished. Will finish it tomorrow, fix some errors on the trousers, add some to one knee and post some more photos. Fun!

Hi Dan,

Great idea and great sculpting. I just find the folds to be a bit deep and sharp, dont know how to explain this. I think they might be a bit "rounder". Anyway, I can only dream of sculpting a piece of art like this, so who am I to say? I want to see it finnished!
