    Greetings all:

As usual, I find myself multi-tasking and working on more than one figure. Following are photos from the most recent addition to the Yorktown diorama a Soissonois Officer who will be inspecting the infantry during assembly. The body is again from Modeles et Allures with a JMD head, custom hat, and scratch built arms. Will complete the right arm soon and begin painting before week's end. Comments and suggestion are always welcome. - Daniel

    Awesome pose

Can't wait to see this figure completed!! Don't think I've ever seen an officer reviewing the troops - and the reference photo is great!

    Hi Daniel,

On the hat, this is a finicky point - yr references show the hat pulled down more or less horizontal. Do I understand correctly that it was fashionable to have the tricorne sort of pulled down(cocked) over the left/right(?) eye?

    Hi Victor,

The hat as far as I understand was normally worn horizontally. The only exception or fashion that I am aware of was during the French Revolution. French infantrymen (usually volunteers, called "les bleus") wore the hat in an odd way to signify their committmet to the revolutionary cause and as a marked contrast to the neatness of "les blancs" (regular army) who were regarded as too sympathetic to the monarchy. Instead of horizontal, they turned the hat with one of the edges facing front.

In this case, though, I decided to tilt the hat slightly to the left just to add more interest to the pose and to give the officer a bit of character.

    Best regards,
    Daniel
