James, I have never heard of using crushed pumice stone in any scale. If I want texture such as that I might add a fine powder of some kind to the paint (I do this for caked mud). In 54mm, textures need to be pretty subtle.

Bill, I have heard of using powders in paint, the results I saw were not impressive. I am trying to capture the look of tanned hides (shrits and pants) that have a more than sudtle appearance over cloth. I am also tring to capture the texture and appearance of rought wool blankets. Can you recommend any powders to use that might work? I know I will have to experiment with quanty to capture texture, but I am not sure of what powders to use. Thanks again, James

    Bill,
An amazing sbs by you.Do you think it difficult to work from bigger scales like 1/16 or 90mm down to 54mm?Would there be any change in tooling like smaller instruments.I use a knitting needle and something like a toothpick made from copper wire.
    All the best
    Andy
