Geeze, can Young do nothing right? For a while, every release was criticized for the GYF (Generic Young Face). Now the faces have a variety, yes, a slight resemblance to Brad Pitt, in a "That guy looks familiar" way and there are still complaints. Guys, look if you buy/paint this one you can tell SWMBO that you did it for her enjoyment..."Look, Honey, I painted a bust of brad Pitt just for you.":)
In any case, a very nice representation of a British bomber crewman. (y)

I love Young's Busts and Don't really care too much about which Hollywood Actor he may look like it's still a cracking bust of a subject that I always felt were badly maligned after the war and never really got the recognition from the top down (including Churchill)they deserved And have to agree about both of Patrick Bishops books as I have read them both if you are interested in this subject also check out Tail End Charlie's by John Nichol and Tony Rennell a real eye opener of a book about those extremely brave Lads who night after night clambered aboard ramshackle bombers to take the fight to Nazi Germany.......again a nice bust and one on my list....A Definate Thumbs up from me.......Kevin

I'm glad that I'm not the only one that cannot see any resemblance to any hollywood actor in this one. All I see is a very fine looking bust.

Maybe its the facial hair that is making him look less "British" as most would be clean shaven. I think the rules were the same as they are today i.e. permission needs to be sought, and granted, for facial hair to be grown and then with certain restrictions as to style etc. I'm sure someone will shoot me down on this though.

As to the ciggie, I'm sure it won't be too much of a chore to paint it as a woodbine ;)

I'll be looking out for this one for sure (y)

    Cheers,
    Billy :)

Woodbine or not, remember to paint it as an unfiltered ciggie!

A classic case of the power of suggestion, Billy. A common phenomenon that's been well documented in human psychology: Someone suggests something, and all of a sudden others start seeing it too. In this case that a sculpt that looks absolutely nothing like Brad Pitt is in fact Brad Pitt miniaturised in resin. I'm not an expert in the field but I think it's called "non-hypnotic imaginitive suggestibility" or something like that. The human mind works in mysterious ways!

A great bust, I saw Brad the moment I saw it and hadn't read the thread, I thought it was actually a film I had missed. Maybe we just have an imagination :)
That said, nothing can take away it is a superb piece.
Well done to Young miniatures again.

Thankfully I'm not that shallow and can see the piece for what it is. An amazing bit of work. All of it.

Sorry, I am not buying this! As pointed out in previous posts, some viewers saw Pitt without ANY prompting from others.

If others fail to see the resemblance to Brad Pitt, then that is because it is not a "perfect" likeness. But I am betting that Young used pics of Pitt as a reference. What he has captured is a "character". I cannot speak for Young, but I almost always use photos for reference when sculpting faces. Unless it is intended to be a portrait, I do not care if the likeness is dead on. It is more important to impart an individual character to the sculpt. If it falls short of a great likeness, but still has chacter, then I still consider the sculpt a success.

The character in that face comes shining through. In my book, that is nothing but a success story. (y)

No psychological explanations were invoked in the making of this post..... ;)

Yes you're right. Both have hair, two eyes, a nose and a mouth. And that ferret moustache clinches it. Clearly I'm talking cods.

I think we can agree that it is a very nice bust though.

I couldn't agree more. The fatality rate in bomber command was 45%, only exceeded by the U Boat service. Unfortunately my father was terminally ill when the Bomber Command Memorial was formally dedicated, but one of his crew members managed to make it over from Australia. They were very brave young men, especially the tail-end charlies (rear gunners), who disgracefully were labelled LMF (lack of moral fibre) when suffering from battle fatigue.

    I am also in agreement.

There has also been too much politically-correct hand-wringing in recent years over the rights and wrongs of the bombing campaign, by which I mean too much judging history by the standards of what is and what is not "acceptable" today. This ranges from simply glossing over their contribution towards the defeat of Nazi Germany, to even going so far as to calling these brave young men "war criminals". That always annoys me.

Who's Brad Pitt? Surely this bust was designed to commemorate a an unnamed brave young man not an overpaid nobody who just pretends for a living.
