    Hi All,

Here's a scratchbuilt figure with Airfix Japanese head for a Chinese man (go figure!), hat converted from Dragon's Vietnam set, rest is wire armature and Milliput (remember this stuff?). I now use A&B.
Painted in oils. The figure wears a "dragon robe" with 8 visible dragons. Folds were easy. I made a basic straight up and down shape. When dried, semi-cones were applied to this shape and smoothed out. Cat is from Phoenix Miniatures.

    Apologies for photo quality

    Hi Verg,

I apologise for the photo quality. I am a technophobe. I use a handheld Samsung dg camera which promise 8MPixels (wow!) Actually, the quality is clunkety click. The original picture file is 4 MB. I use Msoft Office Mgr to compress and get about 46KB, within the 200kb server guidelines on JPEG attachment.

Before you all jump in with suggestions on technical improvements, please understand that this stuff really goes over my head...

Let's talk about the model itself. Painting was done with W&N Series 7 000-1 brushes. I had used white paint for the white lines on the robes. I would nowadays use an off-white etc. We live and learn. I have a sizeable reference library on costumes and have written/contributed some articles on Chinese costumes in magazines.

    Hi Victor,

Leaving aside your technical problems, the figure is very beautiful and well painted. Congratulations on your hard work.

I too would prefer to see a clearer picture to give you amore honest assesment, but from what I can see the cloak is outstanding.

As for your camera, as my wife always says, "If all else fails, read the instructions".

    Cheers

    Further reply

    Dear All,

thanks once again for your encouraging comments. I can't necc do anything about that pic right now. However, I managed to figure a way to show you what a dragon robe looks like (converted from ppt, save as jpeg).

Detail close up of dragon robe and hat

    Two more shots:

Dragon robe front - on the chest, a dragon is chasing a sun element, on the lower part and on the sleeves can be seen Mt Meru (rocks) rising from the waves; these are typical descriptions of the designs of dragon robes; from the belt hangs a purse and costume accessories.

hat taken from back - this was made of straw with a finial mounting a semi-precious stone, surrounded by a tuft of red horse hair.
