Just finished this bust for a fund raiser auction for a friend battling cancer. Almost hate to post after seeing John's Juglar but that is what this forum is all about. I enjoyed this Carl Reid piece enough that I am doing it again in butternut. Have a question or two regarding that which I'll post later.

For now, positive critique is most welcome!

    Best,
    Kevin D.

Well done Kevin. I don't see anything that needs further attention. A sharp looking piece of work (y)! Like that base too!

All the best to your friend in his fight.

Thanks Joe! He seems to be doing well but the costs are staggering. Even with insurance. Mine is$500 deductible, 80/20 in system to $3500 and then 70/30. His is similar. The community really came together nicely for him and his family! It was probably the best run silent auction I've seen.

    Thanks again.

Amazing piece, the attention to detail, the blending and shading and the fur effect on the waterbottle are fantastic. I could learn a lot just by looking at these photos. Cant wait to see the one in Butternut. All the best to you and your friend as well.

    Cheers,

I am not a fan of this period and it's not one I would buy....
But I am a fan of great painting work!
Well done Kevin, this is a super piece.

I found the reference to these bases here at PF. They came from Paul at Oakwood Studios in England. The name plate, in the same trapezoid shape is coming from NAME IT, also in England.

Oakwood Bases are proud to announce a new base for the popular "Half Figure" busts being produced by the likes of Carl Reid.
The wooden base provides a perfect display for these figures and also a stable one!
Name it! also announce a new name plate specifically for these bases, of a trapezoid shape to match.
The name plates come out at approximately 38mm high by 33mm at the base and 23mm at the top.

The bases are available from Oakwood Bases at £12 each, and the name plates from Name It! at £4.50.
    Hope that helps a bit.

Already gone to the highest bidder. Actually, to a friend of mine who bid on it, lost the bid to a mutual friend of ours and THEN, the EMS commander (our mutual friend of many years) who outbid him gave it to him as a gift at the end of the auction. KUDOS for increasing the amount going into the auction fund AND giving it to someone who admires my work and wanted the bust for his collection.
