Here are the trousers with the final dry brushing and now on to the blue. I will flat coat the red before doing the blue.

Guy, what color do you highlight with?

It still amazes me that you can paint first and assemble later. Every time I have tried that, despite doing numerous dry runs, it never fits properly or I screw up the painted bits.

I highlighted the red trousers with an enamel called "daylight" red (lighter than signal red) and added a couple of drops of white to the daylight red for drybrushing the tops of the folds. The base coat is Scarlet and the dark shade is British Crimsom. I use floquil enamels, except for flesh, and thus can come back a month later after assembly of 2 pieces and touch up amd match perfectly. I have tried to paint after assembly but miss alot of detail (especially under the arms and pouches, slings, etc) and found the enamels which take about 3 to 6 hours to dry ( thus giving me working time for blending / shading ) I guess after using these enamels for 25 years, you get used to how they work and I have worked over those years to further develop the skill of using them.

Thanks Anders, I used to have a fit with red and green and made up my mind to overcome! I began buying figures that had either alot of red or alot of green and eventually overcame the "red / green" block.

As an in-progress the saddle has been test fitted to the horse


The figure itself has been both drybrushed in blue and red and the two pbody parts were attached. The next part is the belts and attaching the braid.


The saddle has been test fitted to the horse to ensure propper fit.

Thanks for the kind words Johan. he is a long long way from being done and tonight I finally did the flesh and will start on all the braiding next. The horse still needs the head and mouth completed as well. Hopefully will have him done by my next show in June.

I have had this kit for many, many years and never got the guts up to paint it-to me painting a mounted kit is like doing two figures=2 years.

Yea the rod is what I call a hemroidectomy........but the best way to paint (for me) and get all the detail. This is my second one of this kit. The first I did as the trumpeter on a white horse. It took about 6 months then to do the whole piece. With being retired now and having more time to paint (barring all the honey-do's) I hope to have done by end of May. My next will be the PM Samurai Mounted along with the Barton Von Zieten. Got a mental block on the Barton. All primed and sanded, flesh done and just can't pick it up and do more. But it'll get done.
