    Hello again :)

Despite promising myself a short sabbatical from figure work ( i'm building a 1/9th Kubelwagen as a side project ) i broke out the paints yesterday and started this bust from Parade, now out of production but see this thread

    finding a bust

i have departed from all my usual paints and this is painted just with AV paints and one! GW paint....

this is a really nice sculpt and i can recomend it wholeheartedly!

    a picture.....

    Guy.... Again thanks :)

    update..........

so i have done the final touches on the flesh and added a very light highlight.

also slightly larger iris's and toned the pink down at the base of the eyeball and blended the lower lid upto the eyeball, looks a bit more natural now ( i hope ) hair is about finished

    :)

    Absolutely excellent work.
    The skin tone is wonderful.
I think an expression of an eye is wonderful in particular.
I see like a true eye.

    I am inspired!

    This becomes a great bust!

A tip still to the Saint-Georges-Cross which the Cossack carries:

For "normal" soldiers the cross was golden-coloured (1st and 2nd class) or silver (3rd and 4th class).

The - a lot of more known - white coloured cross was left only for officers.

    Look here:

Mark, great work so far! I think the decision to make the irises larger was certainly a good one. It's looking just fantastic so far. You know, I bookmarked about 3 eBay auctions with this figure and never got a chance to bid on one. You make me regret not going through with it. This really is a nice piece. I may have to vsit the store you posted earlier and see if I can't wrangle one of these up for myself!

    progress.........

adding the insignia always seems to take forever .... uhhh

the cyrillic on the shoulder boards is freehand, drew a box to contain the letters and sketched them in with pencil, lots of cutting in and cutting back got me here.. i aint touching them again. probably :)
