Hi Johan I used a mix of Madder (from Georgian Rowneys range but unfortunately they don't stock it anymore) but you can use Burnt Sienna,Titanium White and just a touch of Yellow Ochre and then i add Cobalt Blue a little bit at a time until you get the tone your after.I used more Tit White with a touch of the blue for the highlights and Madder Brown with a touch of blue for the deep shading.I allowed this to dry and i put the oils mixes in the freezer which keeps them workable for an indefinate period.I then thin down the previous mixes and go over the extreme highlights wet on dry blending with a dry brush and in the case of this face as i wanted him to be pale i used a stain of Madder Brown on his cheeks.I find if you undercoat the face with Humbrol 250 it's perfect for painted a pale face.
I don't have an exact formula as such but i love the part where i use wet on dry because you can fiddle about getting the life into the face, as you've already established the basic face which has dried.

Magnificent work Brian. Looking forward to seeing it, particularly keen to see the depth of the work on the hair and fur.
    Cheers

Pretty deep Derek. It wasn't the easiest to paint as there were many different dark tones to take into consideration .I used Raw Umber,Burnt Umber,Lamp Black,Mars Black,Naples Yellow,Naples Yellow Deep and Mars Orange to paint the hair, fur and leathers but what a bust!!! Pure perfection in sculpting.

Beautifully painted, Brian! Very natural and smooth blending work and also excellent choice of color tones. The facial expression is quite good, giving me the impression that our Jon Snow has become a veteran :)

As I didn't know who John Snow was until after I painted the bust I suppose a bit of artistic license has been used by me.I've been told by my grandkids I've got to watch Game of Thrones from now on.
