Mohawk

When my wife was giving a seminar in Budapest last fall, she stopped in a local Hobby Shop and picked up this bust she saw there. While doing the flesh on the Rogers Ranger, I pulled this off the shelf and decided to do the flesh on it as well.

Paint Mixture:

20% Burnt Sienna
40% Yellow Ochre............Mixed all together and applied wet to flesh area
40% Raw Umber

The first photo is the mixture applied right over the yellow resin.



The second photo is taking a flat wide brush and removing the base mix off, constantly wiping the brush on a paint rag, switching to a clean dry brush frequently, allowing the yellow color to show through on the highlighted areas.



Here you can see another view of the highlighted areas showing through the base mix.



Here we see Cadium Yellow applied to all the highlighted areas created by removing the base mix with a flat wide brush and applying Cadium yellow to these areas



After waiting for one hour to allow the pigment to work into the base mix, the yellow is blended into the areas where the base mix shadow is.



Next we apply Titanium White to the same areas we applied yellow and again wait an hour for the pigment to set with the base and yellow.



Now the white is blended into the previously applied yellow and base mix.



Next a dot of Cadium red is applied to the lower lip and carefully blended and also a dot of red to each cheek is applied and blended out into the high cheek area.

2nd posting

After 24 hours of drying I apply flowuil R9 primer to the areas that will be painted with enamels and set aside to dry again.





Black is applied to the eye area and to the inside of the mouth.

Warpaint

I have decided on the warpaint pattern and have taken red oil paint and applied to the right half of the face. I use tube oils because you can feather it better and not have the line of color difference.



I then paint the other side trying to match the pattern to the right side. Next adding raw umber to the inside of the red.

How do you get your wife to buy you figures????????

Proper training my dear Stephen...........she gets to go on a trip........but looks for Hobby Shops I have already found addresses for.......works good for me.

Today I am working on the earings and knife handle. The earings went on without a problem and now on to the knife beadwork

Guy, you are a lucky man to have a wife so considerate and so supportive.
The bust is turning out very nicely, looking forward to your next step.

Here is the earrings that have been attached after painting and the small "O" ring supplied enabled the earring to be moveable after attaching.





Next the knife was painted and the leather handle drybrushed and attached to the chest belt of the Indian.



Next the feather will be wrapped with wire on the end to simulate leather wrapping and painted and attached.
