Hi guys (and a special hello to Roc,my friend) ! Well,I just finished sculpting my latest creation,a WW1 Bosnian-Herzegovinian officer, inspired by a photo of such a person I saw on the Internet. The head is from Hornet, the ankle boots from Warriors and the hands from Michael-Roberts;all the rest is wire and putty(including the snowball !). The base that I intend to display the piece is from Fontegris Miniatures,an EXCELLENT piece of resin work,IMHO ! I just got the book by Burne Hogarth "Dynamic Wrinkles And Drapery" and I wanted to try out some of the new stuff that I'd learnt from reading it. I hope you all enjoy this whimsical piece from the Great War. Cheers !

The completed figure on the base (which still needs some more working-on):

Well done Ken! this must be your best piece to date, looks like the hogarth book was worthwhile.
One thing, to me the hands look a bit big compared to the head (even though he's wearing gloves) anyway good effort and a great subject. Well done!

Kenneth, my friend, it looks fantastic; you did a great job in sculpting these figures.
The faces are expressive and have lots of character.
This is really an interesting little diorama, it tells a story, about my favorite time of the year.
This has to be your best to date and one of my favorites. :thumb

Keep up the good work. ;)

    Cheers

    Roc. :)

... Well, I like this one Kenneth - there's character in it ! Can't wait to see it painted and finished, you can clearly see this man has lots of fun throwing snowballs. (y)

Too cool, Kenneth! Great idea for a figure, pose, situation, etc.! And as usual great sculpting! And I agree with Johan - looks like he's having fun.

The Bosnians, Czechs, Moravians, and every other nationality under the A-H empire in WWI are often forgotten. And most of them fought bravely and loyally although goodness knows they were given little reason. Nice of you to remember them...

Hi Leigh  ! Thanks ever so much for the positive encouragement;I really appreciate it :) ! Yes,the Hogarth book was certainly a worthwhile investment;I just wish I'd heard about it sooner ! As for the hands,it's actually the angle of the photography that made it look so "odd" compared to the head. Cheers !

Hey,Dan,thanks for the encouragement;I really appreciate it (y) ! Yes,the fact that the rest of the minority forces in the Austro-Hungarian are often forgotten is one of the reasons that I made such a vignette. The other reason is because I thought the fact that the original photo showed the 2 officers making snowballs would make a really unusual subject for a fun vignette. Cheers !

Hey - I forgot to ask 2 questions.

    1. I think in an earlier post you said you were using a mix of Duro (Kneadatite) and something else. Anyway, what are you using? If it is a mix, what proportions?

    2. Where did you find the photo?

    Keep up the good work!

    All the best,

    Dan

Hi Dan ! To answer your 2 questions:
    1) The putty mixture which I use is Duro and Epo-putty,a locally manufactured 2-part epoxy putty under license from Alteco(Japan),in a ratio of 10-20% Duro to 90-80% Epo-putty. The Duro provides the "spring" necessary for rolling out thin sheets for clothing, headgear, belts, etc. The idea for this came from a very good friend of mine,Victor Wong, and has served me well so far.
    2) The website where I got the photo from is (http://www.austro-hungarian-army.co.uk),a site dedicated to the Austro-Hungarian forces of WW1.
I hope this answers your questions,Dan. Cheers !

Hey guys  Hope your Thanksgiving Day celebrations was a good one ! Well,I showed the photos of my latest creation to a dear friend of mine and she suggested adding an additional element to the vignette. Putting on my thinking cap,I decided on a little bird "eavesdropping" on the whole scene ;) .Here, then,is the base puttied-up to fill-in the gaps and the scratch-built bird added. In case you're wondering, the base for the bird is a cut-down chick from the Tamiya livestock set that I had in my modelling cupboard.Hope you chaps like it. Cheers !
