Earlier I posted a NZ Camelier and camel. When I decided to the New Zealander about the same time I came across an illustration of a 1911 German SW Afrika Camel Scout patrol. SO - I bought another Verlinden kit camel and here we are. I've been working for over a month on the camels, adding the saddle, blankets, rifle bucket and other field equipment, etc. He'll be posed with an open map and compass on his lap, kinda looking off into the distance and holding some binoculars. Some of the camel equipment includes a tent half, two rolled blanket, a back pack and mess tin, various rugs, bayonet and shovel. You can see the butt of a Gewehr 1898 sticking out of the rifle bucket. There are two leather cavalry saddle bags on either side of the cantle of the saddle. The saddle itself is buried under rugs. I'll add a piece of chain connected to the bit in the camel's mouth and then some reins, which will be held by the figure in his left hand.

The grey cylindrical gizmos on both sides of this camel and the NZ Camelier are for carrying water. I know very little about them except they are in nearly every photo and illustration of Great War camels.

The head and boots and hands are Verlinden. The canteen, mess tin and binoculars are Model Cellar. The Gewehr rifle is from DJ Parkins. All the rest is me...

I've barely started the soldier figure, but he'll be wearing a lightweight no collar white cotton shirt and khaki trousers with putties. The distinctive grey German colonial Sudwester hat has a large German imperial cocarde. I'll put a German pre-1900 (Don't know the exact date!) leather ammo containers and harness on the chest.

    Hope you like it!

    All the best,
    Dan

Victor - Many thanks!! A little interlude over the weekend, alas. We're having new tile and carpet put in and I won't be able to get to my hobby basement room. Should be back in business on Sunday.

Thank you Mitsutaka! It's coming along. This weekend I'm revising some of the camel gear to be more historically accurate.

    All the best,
    Dan
