Hi guys  ! I just had some major dental surgery done and wanted to take my mind off the pain and discomfort post-op,so I decided to do another WW 1 figure. It's a German infantryman wearing water-proof overpants and having a pair of cotton spare magazine bandoliers around his neck.My thanks to John,Anders and all the other great guys who gave me tips on how to improve my sculpting. Well,I've put the lessons to use and here is the result. Comments please. Thanks in advance and cheers.

Kenneth, a couple of observations. First, give the guy some knees. The pants would be drawn tighter at the knees since they would be more prominent when bent instead of being so baggy. I had a similar problem when I started. Even if you exaggerate elbows and knees you can always sand them down a tad.

For the ammo pouches I would find a method to make them more uniform. Usually I do them starting with a rectangle of styrene and then do flaps with putty or lead sheet. If you use a chopper you can mass produce a number of styrene rectangles to guarantee uniform size. Similarly for belts I would use either lead sheet or styrene to ensure uniform thickness. If you want to use putty for belts do them off the figure first by rolling out a thin sheet, letting set up to a good firmness, then cutting to size and gluing to the figure. A little sanding will ensure they are not too thick if necessary. Duro or Kneadatite is great for this type of thing as you can even allow it to cure completely and apply it since it remains flexible.

Check the size of the calves as the right leg looks thicker in the calves then the left.

One last thing, do you wait a few minutes before sculpting with the putty? You might have better success by waiting about twenty minutes after mixing the putty since it will be firmer and will be less "doughy" looking in the edges, folds and creases.

These are primarily suggestions for creating a one-off figure and not for reproduction.

You are sculpting a lot lately which can only lead to success in the long run. Keep it up. Plus, you have some nice subject with these WWI Germans.

I could share quite a few observations on this piece, but it can be summed up by the following:
    1. check your proportions. The guy looks awfully thin in the limbs and the torso is way too puffy (as well as the hair).
    2. study the work of others here and ASK THEM QUESTIONS. Take a look at Gary Dombrowski's and Jason Whitman's step-by-step projects and ask questions.

Hey Kenneth , my friend, I like the subject matter, very interestin.
You did a nice job and I have to agree with Richard, it would take me a long time to sculpt a figure too.

I hope your tooth ache has gone away and you're feeling better.

Well, guys,I decided to remove the ammo bandoliers in the end as I wanted to show the figure together with a Scale-Link MG 08 machine-gun (the MG crew carried minimum equipment.) I replaced the suspender straps for the waterproof pants and thinned down the offending leg. Here then is the revised figure with a coat of primer. Will post pictures of the MG 08 soon.Cheers !

    Hey Kenneth,

By far, your best work. (y) I like how you removed the extra cloth on the knees and the bandoliers.

Hi guys  ! Finally got around to taking a photo of the MG 08 machine gun that I'll be using in my vignette. It's from Scalelink models from the UK and it comes with 3 ammo boxes and some photoetched ammo belts in addition to the gun itself. The casting is excellent by the way ! Cheers.
