    Hi Guys ,

Thought I would post this WIP , finished most of the lacework ...all NMM , just the epaulettes to finish off/do .

Bust will be painted as a Divisional General and is a little cracker in 1/12th scale

Not touched the Blue yet of the uniform just a base colour , then the buttons and of course the medal .

Will again look at the bicorn with a touch more highs

All comments welcome of course .

    Thanks for looking

    Nap

Hello Nap, this figure looks great so far, i really like the gold lace effect and the blue base is a perfect base for the uniform.
The fleshtones looks great too, maybe a little bit of blending but that could be just the color setting on the camera.
    I follow !

    Hi MM ,

Thanks for the comments , fleshtones look fine to me so its the colour setting!!! I use Jo Sonjo for flesh great pigment density , they dry dead matt as well , still getting used to them !!!

The thumbnail pics are about the size of the actual bust so gives you some idea ...here is a larger image

    Hi Kevin

That's a lovely effect you have created on the lace, I very much like the eyes as well, I will look forward to your next posting, I'm intrigued to see how you handle the French blue

    Hi Nap,
As the others have mentioned the braid/lace looks very effective. What colours did you use to create the effect please, could be something to try in the future.
    cheers

    Hi Guys ,

Thank you for your comments about the lace , glad you like it and the results .

    Smudger,
The eyes were a pain ...many attempts and lots of holding my breath !!! The French Blue is a diffficult one IMO , should be fairly dark and not too highlighted...watch this thread ....all suggestions welcome ...physically possibly ones only!!!!

    Ritchie/Marc ,
So pleased you both like the NMM the 3 colours I used are:

    GW Snakebite leather (A)
    GW White (B)
    GW Chaos Black (C)

    Base: A

I then put a wash of C over all area giving me the deep shadows

Mix A + C to create the shadows

throughout the process I wash with varying shades of the shadow mix

    First High: A + B

2nd High: A + B ....varying this mix as you progress

Final Highs: B (only used on absolutely top highs)

Variations can be achieved by using Andrea Gold Ochre(51) and Vallejo 995 German Grey

I never use a Yellow ..just does not work for me

I use an optivisor so it looks different when I am painting , to allow for this I view every now and then without it .

To be honest its a trail and error process ( well for me anyway!!!)

Hope this helps guys ..its well worth trying

Tha pic looks great Nap , i heard that Jo sonja's pigments are great and i will probably will give it a try.
The flesh colors look much better on that pic and i can tell you that i suck at taking pics, and it bothers me that my camera don't reflect the real hue of colors most of the time :depressed:.
As for the french blue you have a great color base, like you said i wouldn't highlight too much.
Perhaps you wanna try vallejo Royal blue with a dab of prussian blue for the lights , as for the shadows just add black to the base.
Looking forward to see the tunic soon.
    Regards

    Daniel

Looking good Nap. Like the eyes very much. Agree with you about keeping contrast back on blue, especially one as dark as his. It should make the lace stand out even more.
