    Hi all,

I just bought the 54 mm "French Cavalry Officer 1870" from Sparta Modellbau. The Sculptor is Alan Ball and I think this is a very good figure.

Because this is a new figure in Sparta catalogue the sold me the figure without any case (inside a plastic bag) and without any painting instructions. They told me they are going to put instructions in their web page.

I wish to know more about the uniform and I contacted Alan Ball. They sent me a very valuable information but I will appreciate your help because I think I need more detailed instructions and I do not want disturb again the sculptor with this matter (I do not know how is the top of the cap, the number os stripes in the trousers and so on).

I attach the original figure and also the image Alan sent me.
    Thanks

    Rafa

    Hola, Rafael,

I believe your figure is directly copied from plate B1 of Osprey MAA #237, French Republican Armies of the FP War - it is identical in its details. The original plate is labelled "Captain, 5th Lancers, Army of the Loire, October 1870".

    Colours:

Képi, red top, black band, silver piping and insignia.
Coat, black with yellow piping, collar and cuff flaps, silver épaulettes (the strap is metal, the bride -retaining strap- and fringe are textile), and silver metal buttons.
Pouch belt, encased in a protective cover, reddish/maroon morocco leather, silver buttons (the pouch itself would be in a leather cover too).
    Belt, black, brass buckle.
Pistol holster, black or brown leather.
Trousers, red, dark blue or black stripe (one stripe on each leg).
    Boots, brown.
Sabre, white mettal scabard, brass guard, black sabre knot.

    HTH,

    Dani
