This is my first attempt to create I figure using a minimum of commercial parts .
The idea is not very original because it was done here on PV a time ago in 120 mm.
But I had it quit some time in my head , even before it was posted here .

The scale is 54 mm using :

plastic card for the ships dek

the head from Latorre's ( gladiator) figure ( this is seperately available amongs others)
boots from an old historex figure ( recarved and reshaped with an exacto knife)
the hands from lots off scrap I collected over the years .
A good modeller throws nothing away

I still have to construct the rigging along the ship .

I have the idea of also introducing a seond figure ( boatsman or sailor)

The scene is well known .
Russell Crow in Master and Commander when he's hanging over the ships edge in pursuit of an other vessel.

I also deceided not to costruct the ships ancor but rebuilt the scene where he's wearing a long coat used by marine officers on deck during heavy weather

Marc, Great idea. Don't forget to have your figure leaning a little more to capture the animation in the movie still. Next to Last of the Mohicans that's one of my all time favorite movies.~Gary

Really great idea and a great start! Nice vignete, I want to see how you´ll render the rigging. Why can´t I become one of those ideas? It looks so simple when you see it but so difficult when you don´t!! Keep posting.....

    Marc,
nice start, keep us posted. Clever idea using the Latorre head, should make a good foundation for the figure.

    Hello Marc,

Great idea, and you're of to a good start!

I second Gary's advice to make him lean more though. It would also be best to tilt his head more to his right to counterbalance this movement. The left shoulder should also sit considerably higher, while the right one would hang lower. His left arm also stretcher a bit to the front, not just sideways.

I hope this helps a bit, as I always find posing a figure by far the most difficult part of sculpting. Enjoy the project!
    Best wishes,

    Marijn

    Hi Marc

Wonderfull idea and imaginative use of plasticard.
I recently bought the El Viejo Dragon R.Crowe with a standing static pose. Idea was to place him on the Andrea's ship deck.

Now after seeing your project that seems like a VERY lame idea :)

This La Torre head is small for 54mm, so be carefull about the size of the body. especially with two coats.

    Waiting for the next steps...

    HI guys ,

    Thanks for the comments .
The pose in the second picture is indeed to straight up ( the blue tec was to soft the moment I took the picture ) .
It is the idea of contructing it as in the picture .
The head indeed is small ( this was one of the remarks when the gladiator kit was commercialised).
I hope to correct this by ading hair to it .
Hope to post more pictures very soon , but I encountered a technical problem .
The camera I use is confiscated by my daughter who's using it for a school project ( she's studying journalism).
The next week-end I will have it back home . :(

    Dear Marc,

What a promising vignette. I have one suggestion - Don't forget to build up the forehead of the figure - Russell Crowe has this Cro-magnon look.
