    Hey All

I'm going to take a shot at finishing this figure from Irbis Miniatures. I started him after Christmas as a commission of sorts, along with Irbis' two mounted Cossacks. Circumstances took a turn and I put the three Cossacks aside.

I took a deep breath and pulled this guy off the shelf a couple of months ago and found that the cat made a chew toy of the musket  I tried unsuccessfully to resculpt the musket (hence the steel pin) and finally broke down and called Alexey from Irbis... Alexey sent me a replacement piece gratis. Gtreat customer service, thanx a bunch Alexey!

Anyway, here's where I left off... basically the boots, some touch ups and fine tuning and of course, the new musket with forearms attached.

Any thoughs would be helpful as I really want to do a good finish on this piece.

    Cheers

I know it's special for you Colin. Great to get a replacement shooter after Shooter chewed it up. He's on track to be a great piece.

Looks as though it is already off to a brilliant start Colin.
The flesh looks really good, maybe a little softening between the finger shadows on the left hand but that's a little too picky.
I think that this is a great casting and if you maintain this level of paintwork it will be a great figure.
    All the very best

This is nice and looks like you could do a lot with the groundwork also given his stance (y)

I remember seeing this guy. Glad that you decided to finish him. Love the posture and face expression.
The pants blue is very nice. What mix did you use?
    Following with great interest!

    Thanx much all,
He has sat the shelf for some 6 or 7 months. I'll have to go back to the old WIP threads I posted and hope that I recorded the blue mix... It's different from the usual uniform blue that I use.:nailbiting: The arms are being replaced as part of the musket.
As to basing, I'm undecided as to stand him on a piece of dirt, something more urban or I was thinking about putting him on a Zaporozhian river boat, a "seagull".

I just had a nice shnitzel dinner and a nap and now I'm ready to get to the bench and splash some paint around... stay tuned!

Here's where we are at as of last night...
    Boots are now done.
    New forearms/musket are done.

This now leaves me with the sword and scabbard. The scabbard hanger is a two into one style and quite a pain in the ass... I'll take a shot at it tomorrow.
For ground work, I'm leaning towards a roadside icon with a raised stone base.
    Cheers

Thanx Keith, I'm happy with how the leather and wood turned out. As to the look... he's looking over his shoulder for danger... :shifty:

    Thanx again for the support

Very nice skin tones there, Colin, and I noticed how well you've got the eyes/expression looking too.
Glad you picked this guy up again - he's way too good to sit unfinished at the back of the shelf.
    Nice work mate (y)

Lookin' good man! Again, I'm struck by the "family resemblance" to the painter- he'll be posed next to a 'bike, right? ;)

Thanx Nick, Ian and Zane... It is a really nice figure and I'm looking forward to getting this one and the two mounted cossacks finished. They have gone from commission to tribute.
Brian, you think there's a resemblance? I've gotten a new haircut since we last met... now the figure and I really look alike LOL. I hope to have him done and based for London... You'll be there of course, yes?

It's the stache, bro, and yep, I'm planning on making it to London - looking forward to seeing your, Zeno's and Colin's work in the flesh.

    Cheers,
