What I want some advice on, is that bottle... I have done some googling and I just can't decide what to do with it!

Is it German or British, glass or pot, schnapps or beer?

Any pictures, info etc. would be greatly appreciated, update soon :)

Looking good already Mark. From the point of view of telling a story ,I think a German bottle or pot would add to the idea of the truce,IMHO,Ian.

Yes. A bottle of German beer or wine or maybe schnapps would be good.

A German bottle of wine would emphasize the "Christmas Truce" label this bust calls for.

Wine was common in the German trenches (also beer and Schnaps).

    Here's a German wine label from 1914

Since it was Christmas, a champagne bottle could be appropriate too.

I hope I helped, can't wait to see this bust finished. :)

From docu's I have seen, most of the wine the Germans had was French wine they "liberated". Would go for Snapps or beer, but then again : who am I...?

    cheers,

I think a bottle of Belgium beer would go down nicely. Might also provide a bit more focus to the specific location on the front.

    Looking good Mark.
How about a bottle of German wine with the label coming off to revel a decent French wine label.

    Great start!

Given the size and shape of the bottle, I would suggest a beer bottle rather than wine and definitely not champagne. Here are some reference pics of German beer bottles of that time:

The only thing missing here is the characteristic "Bügelverschluss", a certain form of bottle top. This detail can be easily corrected by drilling two small holes left and right at the top of the bottle.

Or take a look at this old english beer bottle:

    http://www.ricardo.ch/kaufen/sammel...asche-whitbread-london-um-1900/v/an742049634/

The bottle top is different, more like a cork, which would fit this bottle. All bottles have in common that they did not have a label but instead an elevated imprint.

    Hope this helps...

    Thank you all!

I will think it over1 I'd prefer glass and german for the fun of doing a glass bottle and label and to set the scene!

Max ... as this is boxart I can't really go down the line of adding much so unfortunate I'll not be adding the wire mounted stopper ( which is like the grolsch bottles I'm so fond of lol ). Or I could paint on the raised detail...

    LOL

    More thinking time....

Cheers again everyone! The input and comments are all of value :)

    Coming along well Mark.

Oh the joys of those old leather footballs, especially when very wet & very muddy!
