I´ve not been very good at posting my Dinosaur models here at pF.
They seem oddly out of place amongst all the human figures.
Couldn´t resist telling about this one, though.

1/18th 7 piece resin kit of the English Dinosaur Baryonyx walkeri, sculpted by my friend Jon Rader.
Going to start painting it SOON!

I also thought it would be interesting to find out how folks here hold their models whilst painting them.
I try to touch mine as little as possible after assembly.
So, a long hole is drilled up one or two legs.
A piece of wood is stuck under it and a screw driven through.
The 90 second Araldite I use to glue the foot temporarily fast NEVER seems to set right, so I´m now using some old green stuff.

    What do you do?

    Spike.

    G'daySpike,

    I love your dinosaurs.

They're not extinct on Planet Figure. They're coming back to life.

I'm looking forward to seeing your new vegetation mate.

    Cheers

I saw the word Baryonyx and just knew it was you posting, Spike!

This is the Rader studios Baryonyx, isn't it? Can't wait to see what you come up with!

I'm always glad to see you posting pics of dinos - for one thing, every time you do it makes me feel guilty, and I put down my historicals, and pick up Mei long. So keep posting, and I'll eventually finish sculpting the feathery little critter...

Yes, Mike, this is my first of several Rader Studios models.
His sculpts can be seen (and bought) at http://www.raderstudios.com/products.html

This one should look good when finished. I like the unusually lean look Jon´s given it. And he´s captured that distinctive head very well.

    Priming tomorrow, painting soon...

COOL! Anxious to see this one come to life Spike! I gotta tell ya, that Brachylophosaurus (on the Rader site) looks REALLY nice. I might just find myself ordering one of those for a go!

Your dino's are welcome off course. What colour are you going to use?

I´ve a couple of schemes in mind, Vergilius, and will work my way towards them both!

Often when I have a set goal in my mind it ends up getting changed due to the demands of the kit. A sketched colour schemes may look good in 2 dimensions and yet not quite work from all angles in 3 dimensions.
Sometimes I work from living reptile or bird patterns, but find I´m not skilled enough yet do the job I want...

This Baryonyx will hopefully be quite restrained olive-greys, maybe with a black or rust-brown head, maybe with some "flash" colouring.

Priming it tonight, then covering up the visible joins. Hope to start putting paint on it next week.

    Spike.

This'll be great watching this one evolve.
It really is a nice looking sculpt.Who or what does he have in his jaws?
If it was just him and me in a dark alley I'd probably pick him as a carnivore, but is he?

That´s an indiscriminate piece of flesh hanging from it´s maw, stiff.
Fish remains and some Iguanodon bone were found in the vicinity of the stomach cavity of the Baryonyx type specimen.
It´s croc-like skull seems well designed for taking fish but also for getting at the innards of a carcass, so Jon has sculpted a special base for it...
Shallows by a riverbank with an ornithopod carcass, a tetchy croc and an indifferent turtle.

I couldn´t afford it, so will make my own alternative.

    Spike.
