I know you have nearly finished his figure but I have a friend who belongs to lazy jacks mess, a re enactment group who like to do thing's properly.
using the best kit and even going as far as making there own jackets etc etc lazy jacks.jpg

as you can see by the photo, the hue's of blue change quite a bit. the hardee hats are still a good dark shade of black. Although these are all sack coats and not frock coats the same would have happened. The different hue's of wool to make up the garment. The officer wearing the Dark blue frock coat is the regulation dark blue.
Quite a number of these are wearing the leather strap for the canteen. and of note the issue brown wool blanket worn as a roll.
The colours that are carried, have not got any unit designation or battle honours on them.
    Hope this helps

Colin, I don't want to alarm you, but it appears that that left hand is trying to abscond with his rifle.
Looking really impressive, looking foward to the finished piece .

Chris, you just can't trust the left hand... ever. The old Devil's paw.

Thanx Bob, that's a great reference pic! I feel like I got pretty close to the blue of the coats worn by the cat carrying the Federal colour and the corporal to his left... not dead on but close enough for hand grenades and shit flinging ;) The brown of the blanket rolls is more or less the shade I was aiming for... a coarse brown wool. I ended up a touch darker but in the ballpark for the most part.
I know who to come to for Civil War references in the future. I have some questions about my Washington Artillery bust...

    Need helps always here
