The Ultimate Guide to Become a Miniature Sculptor

Massive Voodoo, there's a name I haven't heard in a while. There are some very impressive photos there, and I agree with a lot of what you say: there's no one way to do things, and study & reference matter more than what exact medium you use. But to be frank, if it's a starting point for...

    Color shapers/Silicone brushes

The only other silicon brushes I've bought were from Lidl and they 'feel' a bit more floppy and cheap. I'd agree with sticking to Royal Sovereign. I mostly use a grey cup for smoothing, but I'll point out that Royal Sovereign also make double-ended black chisel and taper shapers with...

    WIP Restoration Trio

I have to echo that. I like the sculpting overall but I'm especially impressed by the wigs.

question: why doesn't it stick together?

I usually do the same as Valiant. I've also taken to scratching grooves in the hardened surface to give the putty something extra to grip to, especially for small details.

WIP 40mm Triguard Miniatures: Gendarmes de Dauphin, 1745

Excellent! I akways like to see diorama photos too.

question: why doesn't it stick together?

I would say that's your problem, right there! I may have missed some clever technique, but water's generally a lubricant to stop the putty sticking to things, tools, fingers etc.

    Knight Dog

Brilliant! Reminds me of a TS Sullivant drawing.

WIP 40mm Triguard Miniatures: Gendarmes de Dauphin, 1745

Very impressed by all the fine modelling and painting. I especially like the kettle drums.

    Completed Bedouin boy.

The boy is excellent, of course, but I really like that camel! Just my own personal biases. Do you mind if I ask how the hair texture was done?

Completed "The King of the Dead"

    Stunning work.

WIP Critique New Year Resolution - Learn to Sculpt

Nice progress! On the 'evil grin': my take would be that a genuine or spontaneous smile affects more of the face than just the mouth, particularly around the eyes. It's part of the reason why japanese/anime-style smileys are readable when the 'mouth' is just a flat line ( ^_^ 0_0 -_- >_>...

    A Question on sculpting.

Get it smooth before drying, or use something else! ;) The rubbery texture of cured greenstuff isn't fantastic for sanding or scraping. Mixing in a little milliput helps in that regard, but if you've had problems with that, the finer texture of magic sculp or apoxie sculpt might be better. And...

    Completed Raven (Corvus corax)

Very good! :D I have a special interest in animal art and sculpting, and it's always good to see it done as well as this.

    Head on toothpick

Very nice work! I think you've improved a great deal, since the last time I was on this forum. I've tried beesputty myself, but I found even the firm type to be too soft for my liking. Maybe because I used it for 28mm/1:56 sculpts! But if you like polymer clay that's easier to mix and stickier...

    Very nice!
