    Great post Dolf!
Exact same sense of humor as most Brits. No wonder you're our oldest allies.
Oh, and that Nazi moon base that Hitler and Elvis are living in - it's cunningly disguised as a B-52.

"No wonder you're our oldest allies."

The Treaty of Windsor, ratified in 1386 (preceded by the Anglo-Portuguese Treaty of 1373), is (probably) the oldest military alliance still in force in the world.

Well... even thought the British Empire, back in 1885 kind of betrayed Portugal by refusing to accept the Portuguese claims to all those territories in Africa, between Angola and Mozambique, called the Rose-Coloured Map, and then the crisis leading to the British ultimatum in 1890...

One can also argue that Portugal did not join forces with the Brits during the Malvinas/Falklands war...

Can't remember of other "betrayals" to this Treaty, so guess we are even... lol... :p

As for Moon, Mars, and elsewhere human, and non-human presence, bases, etc... Guess I better keep my mouth shut... (for the time being anyway :D )
Nowadays even MSM are taking this subject more seriously, so who knows what may one of these days be announced to those not in the knowing...

Well mate you must know the old saying....
Q: "Why did the sun never set on the British Empire?"
A: "Because God wouldn't trust an Englishman in the dark."

I'm not English, but I've got quite a few mates who are, so here's another one....
Q: "What's the difference between an Englishman and a coconut?"
A: "You can get a drink out of a coconut."

    And finally, for now....
An Englishman is a man who lives on an island in the North Sea governed by Scotsmen.
    - Philip Guedalla

Englishmen never will be slaves; they are free to do whatever the Government and public opinion allow them to do.
    - George Bernard Shaw

This being a British (English?...) based Forum... you might get yourself into trouble for those jokes... :p

    "George Bernard Shaw"

He was Irish, if not mistaken.

    "I'm not English"

Based on your deep knowledge about Scotland history (as shown on some of your recent posts showing some of your dioramas depicting famous historical battles between Scots and English - I must say I'm a total ignorant concerning that time period and world region, of History  - ) I assume you're Scot (or Irish?) .

I don't know at all about the historical accuracy of this film, but "Brave Heart" is one of my favorite films ever. Maybe because I admire Mel Gibson as an actor, maybe because I've always had this tendency to identify with the side of the "rebels" against the "powerful", IDK, but that film always brings tears to my eyes each time I re-watch it... ;)

    Hi Dolf,
I'd say this is an International forum with contributors from all over the world - and that's one of the reasons it's such an enjoyable hang-out place.

Yeah, I'm a "Sweaty Sock" and am happy to have several good friends among my fellow countrymen from south of the border - which doesn't inhibit me in the slightest from having a dig at them; and vice-versa.
    :D
When considering the history of the British Isles from The Reformation onward, it's almost impossible not to acknowledge the influence of Religion on the various conflicts that took place.
My War of the Three Kingdoms thread features mainly Catholic Irish/Hebridean/Highland Scots vs mainly Presbyterian Lowland Scots.
The earlier Mary Stuart thread depicts what amounted to a Civil War between mainly Catholic Scots and mainly Presbyterian Scots.

"I don't know at all about the historical accuracy of this film, but "Brave Heart" is one of my favorite films ever. Bravephart is Hollywood, with all that implies. Enjoyable enough as an adventure movie, but as far as historical accuracy is concerned, it's a resounding cringe-worthy joke.
However, I'm not going to sit here and slag it off, as others have done a far better job of that than I possibly can. It is what it is.
A slightly more believable option is "Outlaw King", although the final ten minutes or so are pure fantasy as well.
Having grumped all that, I watch movies for entertainment, not historical accuracy - that's what documentaries are for.

    Harry,

"I'd say this is an International forum with contributors from all over the world"

Yes (like most of the other Forums out there, no matter the main topic), but still based somewhere, administered by someone, in the UK, I think.

"Bravephart is Hollywood, with all that implies. Enjoyable enough as an adventure movie, but as far as historical accuracy is concerned, it's a resounding cringe-worthy joke."

Out of curiosity did some research earlier today.
It would seem not entirely Hollywood. Apparently only distributed by two Hollywood giants, but produced by Mel Gibson private companies (and as we know directed by him too) :

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Braveheart

According to this Wikipedia article, the film is indeed full of historical inaccuracies, from beginning to end.

    But...

"Having grumped all that, I watch movies for entertainment, not historical accuracy - that's what documentaries are for."

Same here ;) Meaning it's probably one of the reasons I still really like (enjoy) re-watching Braveheart (beyond the fact I consider Mel Gibson a very good actor)

Anyway, back to the main topic of this thread.

The following article is from 2014, so 5 years old. In the meantime human population on this planet increased from 7.2 billion to over 7.7 billion.

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/science...2-billion-population-dumped-Grand-Canyon.html

We tend to forget the order of magnitude of the celestial bodies involved in this solar system.

I think this image should make it clear that our Sun is the one who controls everything in our solar system...

    Sol e Planetas - relação de grandeza.jpg

This other image shows the 7.2 billion human inhabitants... could fit in just one tiny spot on the Grand Canyon... Can someone really believe that this tiny little pile of people would ever produce more energy than our star?... To the point of us being responsible for "global warming", or "climate change"?... There's a lot of "eco" people making a whole lot of money with this scam...

The fact the population increased to 7.7 billion doesn't make a significant difference. As a matter fact (as stated on the article linked above), even if we could put ALL the humans that have ever inhabited the planet since Homo sapiens (sapiens) walks this Earth (the experts calculate the number to be around 106 billion), we would just need around 15 piles like the one shown below, we would still fit in a tiny spot on the Grand Canyon...

Pilha de 7,2 Mil Milhões de inquilinos da Terra.jpg

Al Gore got me once, with that "Convenient Lie" film, this Greta Thunberg won't have me twice now...

Some really curious reasoning going on here. :-/

The fact that all humans currently alive easily fit in the Grand Canyon has no relation to the impact that number of people have on the planet.
It only means that humans are physically very small, compared to geologocal features like the Grand Canyon.
It says nothing about their impact on the world
The difference is relevant. One kilogram of enriched uranium easily fits on a tabletop, but you’d be surprised what impact it could have on our lives.

If one milligram of truth were ever to be placed on a tabletop, then the sheer extent of the entire climate-change con would be clearly revealed - including this latest scam.
Anyhoo, it clearly states "rules apply here; e.g. no religion or politics".
As anticipated, despite the initial and recurrent humor, this thread is beginning to push those rules to the limit - and that applies to certain of my own comments as well.

    Hi Dolf,

The historical inaccuracies in Bravephart used to bug the tits off me, but I've kind of mellowed out a bit these days and now regard it as an enjoyable fantasy adventure story; much the same as "Indiana Jones", "High Road to China", or that great old TV series, "Tales of the Gold Monkey".
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/High-Road-...00DJ559EK/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

Having said that, there are aspects of the Scottish Wars of Independence that will never be fully known due to the disappearance of so many historical records.
In addition, that famous saying, "History is Written by the Victors" applies. Robert the Bruce is certainly one of my all-time great boyhood heroes, but the Bruce propaganda was in overdrive by the mid to late 1300's.

By the way, "Braveheart" was never a nickname applied to Wallace. It was came to be associated with Bruce because of the Battle of Teba 1330 in Spain and is the reason why a Heart was added to the Douglas family coat-of-Arms.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Teba

I depicted these events in a "stylized" diorama several years ago.

    Hi Harry,

Wow! You are definitely a living encyclopedia about this subject! Lots of good info and links to follow-up and learn more about this! Not my historical time period of preference, but thanks anyway (y)

What an amazing diorama you have in there! (y) What scale is it?

If I remember it right Robert the Bruce is not depicted as a nice character on "Braveheart" (the film), right? Would have to re-watch it again in order to remember such details.

    Films and TV series:

As probably a large number of people worldwide, I watched all "Indiana Jones" films. Also watched "High Road to China" quite some years ago. But don't remember ever watching the TV series you mention, "Tales of the Gold Monkey".

I used to enjoy adventure films more in the past than I do nowadays, I guess. Maybe one of the reasons is because it seems they don't do them as interesting and enjoyable these days as before.

I've always been interested and fascinated by sci-fi (books, films, TV series...), and it's one of the few genres I still like and enjoy reading & watching (whenever they pop up) .

Another genre of films I've been interested in for quite a few years (and I have no idea why  ) is the post-apocalyptic genre. Can't remember when this started but giving it some thought, maybe it may have started with the 1st and 2nd "Mad Max" (Mel Gibson once again... lol...) films, which I really liked back in the days (as a matter fact I watched the 2, before watching the 1st in the series; my favorite is definitely the 2nd one). Watched the 3rd (with Tina Turner), but that one is crap IMO. As is the more recent one (despite having the beautiful Charlize Theron on it... lol...), even with all the technology now available, all the special effects improvements, it still sucks IMO.

But there are quite a few good post-apocalyptic (often mixed with sci-fi) films I've been watching in recent years. Sadly not those many pure sci-fi films have been done in recent years, IMO anyway.

    Keep up the great work!

    "Here is it..."

An image from a film, or TV series is not really proof (not even evidence) of nothing... ;)

But actually there are real photos from the surface of the Moon (and Mars, and other celestial bodies on this solar system), taken by NASA (rovers, satellites, etc), and showing some very strange (and unexplained) stuff...
So IMO it's reasonable that some people ask legitimate questions, and some try to obtain logical and credible explanations.

I'd rather look into Richard Hoagland's work (just to name but one of the top researchers on this particular subject) on this matter.

"The fact that all humans currently alive easily fit in the Grand Canyon has no relation to the impact that number of people have on the planet."

Believe you're talking about mass, I'm talking about the impact.

As far as I'm aware of, there is, there has never been, any scientific proof that anthropogenic climate changes are real.

What that image shows is helping us ask "how can a bunch of ants" have such an impact on this globe to cause "global warming"/"climate change" (in just a couple of centuries or so, if we start from the Industrial Revolution), when there is this other globe (the Sun), where 1.3 Million Earths could fit in, around which this entire solar system orbits...

We, as a species, have obviously been doing a lot of damage to our home, but I honestly don't think our actions could change the climate (as MSM keeps saying) . It is scientifically proved that this planet cyclically goes through major changes (climate being one of them), and these changes have always existed since this planet exist. And there is nothing we can do about that!... Nor to avoid them, nor to provoke them...

There have been a few major climate changes, from very warm to "little ice ages", documented by the scientific community, in not so distant times in the past.
And in those days, we weren't sending CFC gases into the atmosphere, no CO2, so who (rather what) caused those dramatic changes?... Certainly not humans...

    Check it out: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Ice_Age

As a matter fact there are historians who state that the French Revolution started because of the famine provoked by one of these "mini ice ages" that affected most of North and Central Europe.

"Ice in the mountains is melting down . Ice on the poles is melting down"

As a matter fact, it would seem that is not entirely true. From some articles (showing data) that I've been checking lately, it would seem that indeed the ice is melting faster than it can regenerate in the Artic, while in the Antarctic it would be the opposite.

"Cyclone and anticyclone in the Atlantic, near European coasts have changed place, visible everyday on the TV weather maps"

And is that proof that this is being caused by man? It only confirms what I mention on a previous reply, that climate (and other) cycles, have always been present on this planet since its formation.

As for what they show on Western MSM media... I wouldn't trust not even 0.1% of everything they say (these days even pics and videos can be easily faked by a kid having some informatics skills and the right software for doing it...) ... So it's been quite a few years I've thrown away my TV and so don't watch it anymore. And never read any Western media anymore neither.

"And a guy who tell you that the Russian science say no no no no . And you believe those guys who were not even able to make a proper TV set, who invented absolutely nothing during almost 100 years ..."

They can say whatever they want about RT, but for me it is one of the very few major media in which I still have some trust and find relatively credible and trustworthy. One of my favorite sources of info online.

I find it funny (rather hypocritical as a matter fact... like that saying "the pot calling the kettle black"...) of people accusing them of being "State sponsored"... Gee... And what about ALL Western TV stations out there? BBC, as far as I know, is also State sponsored... As are most of the major TV stations all over Europe...

In the US, 6 (right, six) big corporations own 90% of all their media outlets...

But if you don't like, or don't trust Russian TV, watch this short video published by BBC News a few years ago instead:

"The CO2 emitted in coal use for electricity"

Before I started digging deeper into this subject, I also used to believe that CO2 was one of the causes of all evil on this planet.

Recently I realized that actually CO2 is not that bad. Without CO2 plants would die. And if plants die, we also die. So the more CO2, the better the plant life will grow.

    "don't forget for a politician it's always short terms ( after me, I don't care )"

    With that I fully agree, 100%! That's why I don't trust 99.9% of them...

This is the Lounge section and the subject of climate change is not religion or politics, so should be legit according to house rules :)

Nonetheless, as much as I try to stay away from ‘big off-topics’, the above posts exhibit such disrespect for scientific bodies of work and basic logical reaoning that it (almost) hurts. In times where the difference between facts and opinion becomes more blurred, we should make a better effort.

I will now go back to modelling, but can’t resist quoting this signature: ‘There’s none so blind as those who refuse to see’. ;-)

That said, I can't find nothing "disrespectful" on what I've posted above. But maybe you can elaborate a bit on that and put me in the right direction so I can do it better in the future. Thanks in advance.

"can’t resist quoting this signature: ‘There’s none so blind as those who refuse to see’."

And I can assure you that every single day I try my best to not fall into the multitude of blinds out there...
It takes a lot of time, effort, hard work, research, and separating the wheat from the chaff at every step of the process.
Still every step forward brings more questions... guess it's a never ending path... but at least I try, and that alone makes me feel better with my conscience.

"I will now go back to modelling"

Keep up the great work you do on that field... For me, modeling is just a hobby (together with many other hobbies I've had, and some that I still have nowadays) that I use for relaxing when either I need a pause on my main focus in life, or when there's nothing significant happening around that I'd be aware of.
