20 year absence from modeling and historical miniatures - too long, but hey, life.

Came across this site, and am glad to know that the hobby still thrives. I've seen some pretty impressive stuff while lurking here.

I think what has astonished me most about the hobby is how all of the great model shops are gone. Very sad.

I look forward to contributing and seeing everyone's projects.

    Cheers.

I've discovered they no longer market Tenax 7R - my favorite plastic cement. Evidently Methyl Ethyl Ketone is a good substitute.

Floquil paints are gone. This makes me very sad. They were awesome.

The UBER skiver hobby knife is no longer available, hence nor are the blades. This is a huge bummer.

The Historex molds have gotten so worn and old, that the new kits are loaded with flash. Luckily I have about hundred unopened bags.

My Valejo paints (over a hundred) are twenty five years old, and all are mostly dry in the bottles. This is about a $300 hit. They were always stored in a cool place (basement) but evidently the plastic bottles are the culprit. My Tamiya and Gunze Sangyo seem fine. My Winsor & Newton oils are dried up - another costly hit. I think the Floquil can be stirred back to life.

As the saying g0es, no sense crying over spilt milk, so I'll just adapt.

    Cheers.

Welcome Geoff, yes lots of changes in the hobby over the last 25 years. Many old brands gone for good, and many new brands and products have come onto the market to tempt us to spend our hard-earned money. The best news is we are now living in a "golden age" for figures and busts. Never have we had more choices of subjects, sizes and scales.
