I think what's shown here is comorant fishing. A rope is tied to the neck of the bird so it cannot swallow the fish it catches. It then returns to the fisherman who removes the fish from the throat of the bird. Fascinating to watch and a very old practice.

You've defintely got me there mate.I love everything about this. The subject is awesome and as I have in my GA a previous release by the same company and sculptor (a trio of Gaelic warriors) I can attest to the extremely high quality standards of both, technically and artistically.Definitely on my wishlist.

A great model: good to see moves away from solely military subjects.

For info: the birds (cormorants) are usually tethered by a leg as shown in the Japanese print below (an easy addition) and when in actual use have a throat 'snare' to prevent them swallowing the fish (again, an easy mod).

There are some great atmospheric photos as below (the birds aft are perched on a fish trap) and Wiki clearly shows the constricted throat.

BTW: the ScaleBro links don't seem to lead to the model?... CORRECTION: the ones at the top don't but the ones at the bottom take you to the main page. For the model itself follow: http://scalebro.com/miniatures/true-history/old-fisherman

(I think this has now been corrected)

Yes, I like this too and am already thinking of including it in a small vignette, along with two other figures standing on the banks of a water course.

That's a great model! Seen cormorant fishing in some documentaries and every time it's a fascinating scene. This whole model captures that feeling, well done!

Booooaaah! When painted in a night scene, with a burning lantern and good OSL effects ...

    Marvellous!

ordered it and arrived very quickly.
beautiful casting requiring very little clean up work. Leaving it in the stash for now as I am working on 6 other figures now.
