Starting with the base. I want it to look like the cougar jumped of a rock. Going to add a little brook with a small waterfall.

Nice..the animal,has small resemblance to an actual cougar..ask me how I know! And the indigenous with knife is about as fanciful as it comes..but you are conveying some good action

Cougar, northern mountain lion......it has four legs, fur and it bites. Good enough for me. And as for the indian with the knife......don't underestimate those guys......tough bunch .
Well, I had it on the stash and did find some very well done examples on the internet so I thought....let's give it a try.

The indigenous image has been romantically created thru colonial eyes..the James Fennimore Cooper and Remington stuff that is rather rude in misrepresentation. Many Eastern European sculptors are into miniatures of this ilk which is unfortunate. .however as a fanciful piece you are getting there.

Well, most non-europeans think we, the Dutch, still wear wooden shoes, carry tulips and smoke weed all day so first I'm glad there are no 75mm Dutch figures on the market and 2nd this Indian is doing just fine LOL

Ha ha..you don’t wear wooden shoes? Here the issues of cultural appropriation are huge...at some point the European depiction of indigenous becomes akin to whites in blackface ..off topic, but I am continually frustrated by the lack of anything close to accuracy with indigenous sculpts..it’s as tho I was doing Dutch in wooden shoes and smoking a joint..

Thanks John. Yep, after working on the 1/72 scale dio for a month (one half is ready, second half with the chopper-on-deck) will start in may and I will send pictures then) this is a very welcome break!!

It looks like many of the Osprey etc illustrations are based on post European contact sources where there's a significant American Indian/Native American/Native Canadians/First Nations/Indigenous Peoples/Amerindian/Aboriginals* 'appropriation' of European style clothing and items (trade blankets, shirts, uniform items, muskets, gorgets, trade axes etc) but relatively little on earlier, 'purer', styles. So I went to The Canadian Encyclopedia but couldn't see any obvious refs to clothing etc.

So, could you please give links to some sources?

BTW: not sure how this is European 'cultural appropriation' other than odd portraits such as Sir John Cladwell in a mish-mash of FP clothing?

BTW: my brother in law's partner is a German book dealer specialising in Karl May (and others): he says that May's cowboy and indian books were Hitler's favourite reading.

That's funny...
The above statement about my dad was just a joke. He is a very well known and respected Karl May expert, both in Holland as well as in Germany. Went to the Karl May Spiele as special guest etc. I would not be surprised if your relative knows his name.
And indeed, Karl May was Hitler's favourite as he was for many of kids and grown-ups ( uh, I mean Karl May of course...)

Check strongnations.com and ravenreads. The BS of Grey Owl and Winnebago quips shows the appropriation..and reduction of culture to movie and large Victorian imaginations..the mr dress up stuff of people dressing as indigenous..

The collaborating girl figure I find more unsettling.
