As part of my ongoing "Oldies" painting endeavor, I'm going to "cheat" a bit and post a I/R 76mm American Grenadier from the French & Indian War that I completed a couple years ago and never posted. I am currently working on another companion figure from I/R in the same period and will post later.

I've only done a handful of I/R 54mm figures over the years, but I always liked the 76mm line better. This figure was released in the early 70's and, as far as I know, as of March 2018, I/R are out of business. Both Bill Imrie and Clyde Risley had passed away and no one came forward to buy the business. They were definitely a big part of the hobby for many, many years.

The figure has not been modified in any way and was painted entirely with acrylics. The base is my usual Magic Sculpt creation. As seems to be one of my trends, I added a (broken) fence made up of some balsa wood, in the background for interest.

    Thanks for looking,
    Ken

Nice work, Kevin ! I love seeing these old figures painted, especially Imrie / Risley ones. It brings back fond memories of their kits arriving from the Saratoga Soldier shop back when I was quite young.

Ken, Awesome paint job!(y) and staging on one of favorite lines when I joined the hobby back in the early 80's. I too enjoyed their 76mm line. The Rogers Rangers was the first figure I ever painted! Thanks for sharing your work!

I love seeing these old figures appearing and standing so well beside more modern items.
Your painting has really brought this one to life Ken.

That's a great finish, Ken! I'm always glad to see someone paint an Imrie-Risley figure, and yours is as lovely as any piece put out today. And this one is from one of my favorite periods, too.

I like your finish on his face, and the well-worn look to his uniform and kit.

    Prost!

Super job Ken. Imrie Risley is a blast from the past. One of the first modelling books I saw had a diorama of AWI 17th Light Dragoon’s skirmishing with Continental Light Dragoons, photographed against an outdoor backdrop. I can’t remember the book or who the artist responsible was but at the time it really inspired me. I’ve never sampled one of their kits but this looks to be a cracker.

Thanks Scott! I never made it to the Saratoga Soldier shop back then :( but ordered from them and spent a lot of time at the Hobby Chest in the Chicago area. :) A local Mecca for MMSI members specializing in the figure hobby.

Thanks Nap! Series 77 and I/R 76mm. Who knew they were ahead of their time now that 75mm has become so popular. :)

Thanks Andrew! It's a labor of love for many of the older figures. I'm a sentimental softie at heart. ;)
