I would like to paint a figure deep in the woods on a moonlit night. However I lack the requisite experience and need to find a discussion on this topic.

Can anyone point me to a thread or website which discusses how to paint a figure lead by moonlight.

I found an article on line a few years ago that may help. It was on the website for Figurementors and was done by David Powell (it may have been posted on other sites also). It is titled "My Experience Painting OSL (Object-source lighting)". His example was a hobbit walking in the woods at night with a lantern. It may give you some idea on how to do a moonlit night in the woods. You could also try a Google search using OSL (object-source lighting). I have never tried this technique but have seen others, on-line, that have. Men around a campfire, etc. Hope this helps.

Pretty sure there's an article in one of the books I've got painting a pirate bust as if in moonlight - I'll see if I can find it (The book was one of two about overhead lighting)

No way.....I saw an original book by Nostradomus at a flea market that the guy wanted only $30.00 for. I told him I could get on book on how to paint pirates at moonlight for less then that. He gave me the finger as I walked away.

It would be a technique similar to painting a figure as if in a black-and-white photo, wouldn't it? Lots of shades of grey, on a spectrum with the dark end tending to black or dark charcoal grey, and the light end to very light grey or almost white?
