    Hi,
anybody else here using the HobbyZone oilpaint rack? I do, as well as their great racks for bottles and brushes but......... the oiltube rack didn''t work at all. The tubes kept falling out even by looking at it and due to the fact that the bottles are placed upside down the oil flows to the top of the tube instead of the bottom but.......................the solution was soooooo simpel..........
Just turn the rack like this and both problems are solved.
Now tell me, what should I charge HZ for this genius-idea ..:LOL:

I put all my paints in a drawer. They lay down on a drawmat with a slope.. Bought it at the IKEA. Cheap and handsome solution. I have more then 40 tubes into the drawer. So this rack doesn't help me.

great solution, Marc. Problem is....I already had one of these. IKEA is a great place to get rather handy stuff for little money. I have a few of there "Snudda's" . Great for airbrushing and very large dio's.

I don't have those fancy paint rack. I am using the same art bin that I used from my art school days some 40 years ago.

Ah, well if you'd follow my tip with your storage-box I think the result would be the exact opposite :happy:

It's nice your tip works for you.
The rack was designed to store the tube upside down because gravity pulls the pigments down to settle at the opening and the oil solvent up at the back of the tube, so the oil solvent is less likely to leak.

Yep, but the problem is that , when upside down, the oil flows to the front of the tube and it needs no more then looking at them to make them fall from the rack. I have them like this for a few days and now the oil is in the back and they don't fall off.
What brand are you using btw?

Here is what George Ohanlon..Natural Pigments.Rublev oils..recommends for storing oils exactly as Felix suggests, so the oil flows away from the screw cap 0F5A8784-AD3E-46F5-8D0D-606AE1104B71.jpeg

$8.50 usd. are actually test tube racks..so probably available globally from various supply houses..they come flat and fold to assemble so can set up, fold away, as needed..

They work..stick newly purchased tubes upside down for a few days before opening and avoid puddles of oil..

Back in my time at art college ( the late neolithic ) I used to wear a beaten up old bush jacket and keep all my stuff in the pockets...

    Marc,

If they still exist, could you please post a link to those "drawers with a drawmat with a slope"? I've done some research on the IKEA site (the one here, so had to translate "drawmat" - or is it "draw mat"? - into Portuguese) but can't find nothing looking like what you describe.

I don't have those many oil tubes as you do, but I'm half way so have to start thinking about a proper way to keep them.
So far I've kept them into either small card boxes (but only 3 tubes per box) that come from my supplier when I buy some (don't know why, maybe intuition, but I've been keeping them upside down, somehow it seems the right way for me, as on the pic posted by "grasshopper"), or, for some, as I don't have enough of these small card boxes, just laying down on some plastic box. But I guess it's time to find a good way to keep these tubes.

    Thanks!

    Cheers!

Recently got a couple of those plastic racks, which can store 21 tubes each, so for now problem solved for my oils tubes:

I was at the IKEA a few weeks ago and couldn't find them anymore.
    Now I use this:

Have a couple of those, but use them for storing other stuff.

    Cheers!
