WIP Sgt Major C A Burt Irish Guards

Decided to make a start on this offering from Mick’s Micks range, Sgt Major Burt of the Irish Guards. The sculpting and casting are first class with only minimal cleaning and filling required. Even though this is a hefty figure the detail on the arm badge and flags is superb and I take my hat off to Offo for having the skill and patience to replicate it. Painting is oils over enamels and I have nearly finished the face ( I think!) and had an initial go at the plume. The bearskin and tunic are blocked in. If anyone has any advice or pointers as to how to handle the bearskin in oils then I would love to hear- I would normally do a slight grey mix as the base, shade with pure black and highlight with Naples yellow. I seem to remember reading somewhere about people using washes either brown or blue but can’t recollect where exactly I saw it.

Some more progress on this one of the last couple of days. Started on the tunic, braid and RSM badge and under coated the sash. Bearskin, gloves and sword belt still to tackle but things are slowly taking shape.

Some more progress made-the sash has been given its coat of oils and made a start on the medals. The flags have also had their first coat of oils. Really enjoying this figure.
