"For those that know me you'll know I'm not too prolific, only 1 figure finished in 2011"

I've shared about 60 projects in my VBench here over the last 12 years.
Almost all of these were done in last 5 years.
What's changed? What have I learnt?
Who & what influenced the change?

To answer these questions & in reflecting on my figure painting journey I've penned an article for Illustrated Historical Artist #8 due out tomorrow. (Part 2 will be in #9)
It contains a three stage learning process that I'm hoping will appeal to many past, present & future Planeteers.

Most importantly this article allows me to acknowledge the many individuals who have influences my development as a figure artist. PlanetFigure has played an important part in this, continuing today in helping me test, share & learn in a supportive place.

Please have a read, share what you think - is it helpful or just indulgent?
Keen to hear what your journey has been like - which stage are you in?
How are you finding your style or do you even care about this?

Read the piece today in IHA...remind me of what an editorial journalist friend termed “the ten year rule” ..it takes ten years to master a craft..with exactly the stages you identify...thank you Mike...your openness with your personal journey helps and inspires

Fantastic article Mike. I’m certain many Planeteers will draw inspiration from your journey.

Hopefully many painters will recognise themselves in your descriptions of yourself in the early days.

    I know I did .

I like the second as much as the first. ..you have a deft way of bringing the reader along on your shared journey in a way that isn’t overbearing as expert to student, rather it’s amongst peers ..well done, informative and compelling...that my book jacket blurb Mike

Agreed Marc..it’s not just for military modellers..it’s for anyone. Even some uniform history. And it’s cheap.

Grateful for comments Marc & Hop.
Reassuring to know that articles feel relevant & helpful.
I was definitely aiming as Peer to peer vs master/apprentice in others.
Hope too it complements other articles & encourages others to get practicing.

;-) in business Hop we shy away from 'cheap' & prefer "value adding" or "good value for money ".
Neat to hear that it's useful & worthwhile.
This issue sets standard for next ones to follow.
Hoping support for it grows as fantasy is outpacing historical art nowadays it seems.

I knew as soon as used it I wasn’t conveying the right message. Yes, great value, and inexpensive. Something can be great value but highly expensive. And for the evident labour, the product is one hell of a deal, and relatively cheap ...I compare to hard copy uk scale modelling publications where monthly tab here in Canada is 30% more and not more than a passing read..
    Still, my bad....
