Moving on from the phillipines to 130years before, for this next project ive decided to take on the recent CGS release - French Carabinier bust 1812 with the captured Russian flag from Borodino.
As per grahams high standards, the bust is beautifully detailed by carl and graham and the casting is very well done with hardly any mold lines to clear up.
The pose is quite dynamic, but very worrying when you want to display the piece perhaps in a competition, the main worry is the pole being bent,or the arm comes away,to tackle this ive decided to make the flag more upright and the pole vertical so I can secure it into a tiny hole in the base top as youll see from the pictures, for me this gives me more piece of mind and dosent seem so fragile when handling the base.
ive had to make a slight alteration of the hand from the wrist holding the flag to accommodate this slight shift of position.
I had this problem at one of my club meetings last year with the Rooster Cogburn bust I did by ross Mitchell, the guy held it and dropped it,i cant begin to explain on here how I felt, looking at it in 3 bits.
ive added some early progress pics, the head is temporary fixed, but the arms ive fixed with pins,i shall do the same with the head once painted.
Ive decided to go with some battle damage to the flag,by giving a torn look to the edges which is depicted in the picture which accompanies the kit.
Im really excited about the painting of this, especially to see what kind of effect I can get on the brass breastplate and helmet.
Ive replaced the brass rod in the kit as this was liable to bend,i have replaced this with metal rod of the same diameter, and is really strong and solid.
the fanion and cords I wont add until everything is painted.
