    Hi Mark,

I'm not sure if i'm reading you right but Verlinden didn't make an SAS Jeep kit, they only produced an add-on/conversion kit for the standard general service Jeep kit that they produced..

What have I been barking up the wrong tree for the last 3 + years? What a plonker! Grrrr. No bleeding wonder I couldn’t find the bugger, because it doesn’t exist.

Just heading into a sound proof room for 20 minuets.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news...:(

Anyway, John seemed to enjoy his build so it might not be all bad if you strengthen it in all the right places..

I'll still keep my eyes and ears open for you...

Did you see the pictures of the figures i uploaded, can you or anyone reading this think of any more??

    Regards Ian

I think that’s it. Unless you go kit bashing and converting other figures. MMM has an 8th army figure that could be used if you swap out its head. Other than that no.

If my memory is correct I think that I made molds from either two or three different Verlinden kits to get a driver? I think I still have the molds. If you wanted a driver I will send the molds to you if You like, and I can find them. I am not sure where the photo is of the kit I built is. The diorama with the kit is in the garage in a box somewhere. It has the RAF pilot with his thumb up and his handgun behind his back and titled "Home James", with the jeep pulled up in front of him. The hand gun behind in case of a non friendly driver. If interested I will look and photograph the diorama. My kit was the Verlinden jeep as at the Mastercon conventions all Verlinden kits were 30% discounted. :D What a deal. That how come I have a lot of Verlinden stuff.:singing:
    Cheers

I think I may have struck lucky. I was just having a look at ‘Sol Models’, FB page. They are currently developing a 1/16, WW2 Willy’s Jeep. The development looks to be highly detailed and advanced. That’s me sorted! I will wait for it’s release. Happy days.

The verlinden detail set will come in handy, so i will concentrate on that and the best figures from Ian’s very helpful post.

Sod it! I will go for the Verlinden. I just hope I can find the detail set sooner rather than later.

Thanks for all your help on this.

If I remember correctly. The wheel axles on the rear is glued on top of the springs. therefore with the weight of all the stuff it broke the glue joint and the body fell down and rested on the wheels. So if after glueing you wind some very thin wire around the axle and spring that will eliminate the the problem. I don't think that it will be seen very easily. I did not have any fit problems if my memory serves me. as for accuracy it looks pretty damn good in the diorama and I did not count the rivits. :D Enjoy the build:)

Thanks for the warning, I will keep this in mind. I have managed to source some 1/16 twin and single Vickers k guns, as well as sand channels, the price of which is/was eye watering! Having no other source, they have me over a barrel. I’ve been looking at stock photos of the SAS, and LRDG, in an effort to cobble together at least one figure that is slightly different from the available options.

    Mark,
    You are most welcome.
If I remember correctly the drivers Bum was shorted and I used putty on his rear end so that I could get a good fit to the seat. In the right hand I put a rifle upright from the floor of the jeep. The driver not knowing what to expect. I just cut a hand width out of the rifle and glued the reminder to the top and bottom of the hand which had a closed fist. An old Historex tip for drummers.:D
The diorama had the Verlinden RAF pilot modified the have him thumbing a ride with his left hand and a 45 pistol behind his back in case of a non-friendly driver. The sign post was in a barrel next to the pilot. The diorama was called "Home James".:D

The photo's are loose and packed in boxes in the garage from when I moved to texas. It is hard to get to them and all our photo's are loose in two boxes:depressed:
I will see if I can get to the Diorama in the same situation. and take photos. No Promises as I have twelve boxes of models built all in boxes in the garage with the Car and tools, ladders Etc.????
When we moved to Texas we went from a 2.5 car garage to a single car garage:grumpy::wacky:
