This maybe a flight of fancy, but I was looking at various 120mm scale SAS/LRDG, figures from various sources, and was thinking the old 'Verlinden Jeep', would be a great addition. However locating one is proving 'Bloody' difficult.:( ..Has anyone got an idea or at least an avenue that I can pursue regarding this aspect.

    Hi Mark,

There are alternatives to the 1/15 Verlinden Jeep kit and SAS conversion kit...

Danbury Mint produced two die-cast WWII Wiley's Jeeps, the General Service version with .50Cal and the multi barrelled rocket launcher version, their fairly expensive but sometimes go for a lot less than the Verlinden kits..

Also, Frontline Miniatures produced two 1/15 Jeep kits, one with .50Cal and the other was their SAS variant, i also believe they created a kit to convert their GS version to a medical variant sporting stretchers.

I am looking for Frontline Miniatures kits so if any one has the SAS variant along with the medical conversion kit and is willing to part with it please PM me whether it be now or in years to come?

Good luck with your search Mark and if i come across the Verlinden kit(s) anywhere i'll let you know..

Thanks Ian, I appreciate this information. I was unaware of this alternative. If I see anything, I will return the favour. Saying that two 1/16, figures in a 1/15th jeep may look a tad odd. However, I will spend some time having a good search. Something may pop up.

    Thanks Mark,

I don't think 1/16th figures would look to far out of place with these 1/15th Jeeps, if you wanted a 1/16th version you could try "Shapeways" as i'm sure someone has produced a Jeep in 1/16th there.

Also, 1/18th isn't a million miles away either, the following manufacturers produced Jeeps in this scale:
    • Solido (Diecast).
    • 21st Century Toys
    • Ultimate Soldier
    • Gate
    • UT Models
What WWII Desert LRDG/SAS figures can you think of , below are the ones i know of ??

Thanks Roger, I am ok now. Just a bit of a rough year on the health front. I am slowly getting back to my annoying self.

Yes Mark, I'd seen you're wife's FB posts that she had tagged you in and where you were. I didn't see it as my place to intrude at the time but I'm glad to see you here and please get back to your annoying self asap. :D

I totally forgot about Facebook. Well that was me! Not much fun I can tell you. However I’m out and back home, and trying to catch up with everything and everyone.

Please don’t mention the word intrusion. It reminds me of unsympathetic doctors and fat fingers. That was intrusion.

Many thanks Ian, I somehow missed this. It’s given me something to think about. The £50 import charge is a real kicker, this on top of £30 postage. Total being over £230.

I’ve put a watch on it. I now need to see about the detail set.

    Again thanks.

    Hi Mark,

The purchase price is probably about what your going to have pay for a VP Jeep from now on, especially now that they have stopped producing.

I can live with the shipping costs on transactions like this as your actually getting a service in return for your money but the import and VAT charges are unjustified in my opinion.

Hopefully one will pop up closer to home..

    Regards Ian

I’m not discounting it, I just need to think hard! There is still the sourcing and cost of the detail set too factor in as well. I’m kicking myself harder, knowing I passed this up @ £125.

    We live and learn.

    But it is tempting.

I have no interest in die cast stuff, i’ll Stick with the verlinden option. I guess your right about the price, I’ve found one in France for €300.

I also became aware of numerous negative reviews of it. It got a right royal roasting. It’s amazing what you find when you really look.

    Mark,
I built this kit a loooong time ago........:D The jeep becomes very heavy, especially after I added a kit bashed driver and all the extra stuff, and it fell of the wheel base after it was built and painted. :censored: (Sunk down onto the wheels). You might consider using wire after the wheel base is built around the glue joint area. If you use thin wire on the inside it will not be seen. The wire can also be part of the spring retaining clips. It is a great kit and well worth the build.
Hope that this will help if you buy the kit and build it. You will understand what I mean if you get the kit.
    Cheers

Thanks John. I’m having serious doubts about this venture. Head vs Heart. For this type of money I could get a high quality kit from ‘Sol Models’. I guess I will do a little more research and browsing before I make a decision. If the SAS version came up, I would jump on it. This version not so much. Especially if the inaccuracies and poor moulding/fit are true. It’s a lot of Wong’s to shell out.

    Mark.
